RIP Chekov II

Anton Yelchin, who played Chekov in the new Star Trek reboot, has died in a relatively freak accident.

Freaky. Captain Kirk II, Chris Pine, played a childhood friend of the Fishers who was killed in a very similar accident on "Six Feet Under".

I remember seeing him in a few movies as a child/adolescent actor. He was able to portray sadness and confusion extremely well. It's very sad.

I have heard that his car rolled back on him pinning him between his security gate and his Jeep. The Jeep apparently has a recall because of a defect that allows this to happen.

I have heard that his car rolled back on him pinning him between his security gate and his Jeep. The Jeep apparently has a recall because of a defect that allows this to happen.

 

From the news-the shift lever is unusual in that it returns to a neutral position after being engaged into whatever gear P, R, N, D, ... You actually have to look to see what gear you are in because the lever always returns to the same position. Possibly it also slips out of gear easily too. But in any case what a stupid design. It would be easy-especially if tired, drunk, or high to mistakenly think you have put the car in park and it still being in neutral.

Thus the reasoning behind not allowing keyless ignitions on hybrid vehicles: You never know whether it's ON because the engine may or may not be running.
