If so, can I reserve one of the cots? I might want to come early and stay all night.

Left LAX early yesterday (normally a peak travel time) and my time passing through pre-Check was maybe a minute and a half.

I flew out of LAX the Friday after this story broke. Granted I was on one of the first flights of the day and I arrived at the airport before the terminal was technically open (the shuttle service was determined not to be late!), but I waited longer for the TSA checkpoint to open than to get through it.

For the return from DEN (another airport mentioned heavily in the news) on Sunday afternoon, TSA took about 20 minutes. Sunday afternoons out of DEN is peak travel time for weekenders.

Large airports have a handicap area

They get scanned in - wait for wheel chair attendant - then go to TSA in the wheel chair

This privilege should still be reserved for those who are truly disabled.

I have a friend who set off the alarms because he forgot to take off his metal cockring. He had to go take it off and then put it in the bin.

flying ain't that bad folks. this is just something else for the media to trumpet about

At most airports this is true. But I've seen the security line at LAX stretch the length of the terminal, snake back to the beginning and out onto the sidewalk BEFORE GOING UP THE STARIS TO THE ACTUAL LINE. They actually had an airport employee controlling access to the escalator because the flying public is too stupid to see that the area at the top top is full.

SOME airports have real problems during peak travel times.

The closest that I ever came to a private jet was this past November. I was flying from Fort Meyers to Key West. When I approached the ticket counter the young lady behind the desk said, "When I saw you walking into the terminal I knew that you were a Key West person." She then continued, " You'll be happy to know that there are only two of you on the flight, and you looked like you would be one of them." Of course when the other guy eventually showed up he really looked like a Key West person as he had tattoos all over his arms!

At any rate, when we got on the plane, which normally would carry about 40 passengers, we were told to sit in specific seats toward the rear for the safety and balance of the aircraft. No bag of peanuts, but each of us did get a bottle of water. I would think that the real private jet experience is a tad better.

I flew a re-position flight in the mid-'70's, a DC-10 from Los Angeles to San Diego. There were seven passengers on board. We were all seated in first class. It was something like 30 minutes flight time.

i beat you here - in the early 70's - Air France Paris to Montreal, a 747, 6 passengers!!! They were not stingy on anything, including food, drinks, LEG ROOM, whatever!

Flight in the early '90's, Paris to Boston. DC-10. I had an entire row to myself. It turns out, the seat backs can be bent forward, so I flew with my legs up for the entire trip. Now, there are some escorts I've met that I'd love to do that with but ... ooops ... lost my train of thought.

Oh. The flight Attendant kept giving me the little bottles of Veuve Cliquot yellow label. After two, I asked if it would be possible to have a little more, and she brought me three. I'm pretty sure I drank an entire bottle of champagne, and IN COACH.

On American once, second leg of SEA-BOS, I asked for a glass of wine. I was the only one drinking it, so the Flight Attendant wrapped it up for me and gave me the mostly-full bottle.

Virtually a ditto in the early 1970's Air France Paris to NYC. The plane had mechanical problems so we were on the ground for several hours in Paris before it took off. When we approached NYC there were terrible storms and we were diverted to Montreal. The we were told that NYC would be safe so then we were diverted back to NYC. However, storms appeared again as the plane approached and there was not enough fuel to be diverted anywhere else (or so we were told) so the plane landed though I swear it was hit by lightening as we approached, but obviously not!!! Due to the backup on the ground in NYC we remained on the plane for several more hours. All told we were 2o plus hours on the plane. Thank the gods that there were only a handful of passangersrs... and it was indeed a 747!!!!

Veuve Cliquot would make almost ANY flying experience tolerable!

PS to my post above: I must have looked so out of it when we landed that customs never checked my bags which had a collection of lava from Mt. Etna and a homemade Italian Salami from relatives. The relatives had also given us a large ball of cheese. However, we ate that as I didn't want to have to carry it on the plane and pretend that it was a baby as on an episode of I Love Lucy!
