I realize "Asian tops" is almost an oxymoron in the escort field. But there are occasionally Asian men available who aren't bottom twinks (not that there's anything wrong with a bottom twink of course). Muscleboy Will was one of the few Asian tops I've ever known, and he was quite hot, but seems to have retired.

Now, in NYC there's a new RM lister named Winny, an Asian top. He should change that name as it hardly brings a masculine top man to mind, but that aside, has anyone tried him out?

I can't help myself. Oh good lord will we ever be free of stereotypes about Asian men?

(OP, I applaud your search for the elusive Asian top, but I cringe that your post buys into the stereotypes.)

Signed, daughter of an Asian man who would easily kick all your sorry asses to the curb and have you saying "yes, sir" ( not in a sexual or BDSM sense, either).

I'm with Quoththeraven here. My BF is Vietnamese and a top. All of his friends are tops. I know 50 Asian guys that are tops. Will admit we live in Bangkok, so my exposer to Asians is greater than in the US. My friends hit the gym 3 or 4 times a week. They play soccer a couple times a week. Amazing body's. Sure you don't see 6'3 that often, but 5'10" is becoming quite common with the new generation growing up.

I definitely would not call him muscular. However he is the next best thing, a very good looking athletic guy. He looks like he has the necessary equipment to top if he wants to.

I'm not agreeing with the stereotype -- I'd love to find a hot Asian top. Just saying that they are rare on RM and similar sites as far as I can see.

There are other ways to put it, like not actually drawing the conclusions and leaving the word masculine, with which I have other issues, out of it.

It seems strange and sad that a femme guy, whatever that means and whatever his ethnic ID, is going to feel more acceptance from a queer cis woman like me than from most other people here. *shakes head*

More than one Asian twink I've hired has told me he advertised mostly or entirely as a bottom in order to satisfy clients' predominant expectations. Each of those guys (5 or 6 different people I can recall over the years) was happy to top me when I suggested it.

Before we all go into politically correct hyperventilation, I'd like to point out that my original post was only meant to point out the scarcity of Asian escorts who advertise as tops (and I think it's implied that I'm speaking of NYC or at least the US). That many posters know Asian tops in their private lives is not a question and that Asia in general may have many escorts who advertise as tops seems obvious.

My use of the word "masculine" applied merely to the choice of the name "Winny" which is a distinctly feminine name in English (usually short for Winifred) and might not be a good choice for a gay male escort if he wishes to attract clients.

I have no judgment about anyone's masculinity, and I totally agree that Asian men are, as a group, just as hot as any others. In fact, I wish there were more Asian escorts in NYC.

And to get to the real point, has anyone had a direct encounter with "Winny" who, I agree, appears to be very sexy?

Now I'm pissed off about the stereotypes all over again. Gsy/bisexual men are subjected to so many stereotypes in life, what's the harm in them creating their own? /end sarcasm

It's so limiting and unnecessary.

(No criticism of Mr. Smith; I'm glad he brought it to our attention. As I said, hats off to OP for seking an Asian top.)

How is saying that the phrase Asian top is an oxymoron not offensive? And I absolutely don't feel like being offended by that is politically correct hyperventilation at all, it's just common sense. It's as if summoning the phrase "politically correct" allows one to spew forth anything they damn well please.

How, you ask? Because context matters. You left out the next part of the OP's sentence. He said "I realize that 'Asian tops' is almost an oxymoron in the escort field." Upon reading the whole sentence, as well as the rest of his post, it seems obvious to me that he was referencing the dominant stereotype in the American escorting field of Asian men being bottom twinks. He did not say that he agreed with it, but in fact strongly implied that he knows that there are plenty of Asian men who present and identify as masculine, non-twink, and as tops. This is because that's what he's seeking, and he even provided an example of a retired NYC escort who fit that description. It's unfortunate, but I think if one peruses American escort sites and porn in general, they show that the OP's observation about Asian men's general depiction in gay popular culture is accurate. Asian men are similarly portrayed poorly in non-adult themed American popular culture as well.

To my knowledge, the only gay porn producer with Asian talent is Peter Fever. As for general popular culture, Asian men are emasculated. Other than all-Asian or Asian-situated content (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs of a Geisha, and The King and I), they are not considered worthy of being romantic leads. (Although a Korean actor who is part of the Fast and Furious ensemble has a romantic subplot.)

Case in point: kisses between Jet Li and Aaliyah in Romeo Must Die tested so poorly that the movie showed no contact between them. Hollywood has held this as a truism ever since. John Cho's TV vehicle Selfie (an update of Pygmalion/My Fair Lady) died on the vine recently.

Sorry to derail the thread here...

I thought I remembered reading that the Romeo filmmakers rejected romance between Aaliyah and Jet Li, but it was the black-Asian interracial angle that supposedly didn't play well with audiences. I suspect the significant age difference between the actors (she was 21 and he was 37 when the film was released, per Wikipedia) also didn't help, as that's what struck me more than anything else in the characters' below-the-surface romance.

I've had a huge crush on John Cho ever since the first American Pie movie, and I find it so bizarre that in this day and age people still cling to such restrictive racist stereotypes and notions about beauty and attractiveness. I used to love the dry, acerbic wit and somewhat dark humor of CBS's Two Broke Girls, but the way they portray the Asian male character is so cringeworthy that I've stopped watching it that much. Twenty years from now, I think people will look back at that and be astounded that this was allowed on broadcast television the same way many gays look back at some movies from the 90s and are aghast at the casual use of the f-word.

As a vers, Asian male, I can tell you that it's certainly the assumption that I'm a bottom. In fact, one escort forgot about our conversation prior to our session and initiated our interaction as a top until I gently reminded him that I was going to be the top ;)

True to the OP's statement, I have not seen many Asian tops in my area. And am actually pretty disappointed that Winny is a top and not vers, because that would be one hot flip fuck if he were!

Or even possibly...

o_O

Indeed, it could be. I just expect the more traditional "Rocco" or "Jeff" or "Lance" would get more clicks, even if they lack imagination. But I definitely couldn't care less. I'll give "Winny" or "Winston" or "Winfield" or whatever he wants to call himself a try.
