Hope I'm in the right part of the forum here but I'm new :) Just wanted to say hi. Been lurking for a while but haven't ever made an account.

Been doing this for a few years now on and off with a couple regular clients that kept me busy enough. Took too much time off (got too busy with school) and lost contact with most of my regulars.

Recently wanting to get back into it more and build a new base of clients hence wanting to be a little more "involved". Love meeting new people and having real conversations, it's really what got me started in the first place. If you're interested in finding out more about me I got a short bio written on here.

And since I am relatively new any tips would be nice too if you got em.

Well, it's mysterious enough that you don't show your face. It's been years since I hired from an ad where I couldn't see the face. But what I really don't like is the absence of a rate for an hourly hire. I would quickly pass on such an ad. Already I'm having to guess on the appearance (face is important to me). But I really don't like to have to ask for a price. Just like I will never ask the price of a restaurant menu item if the price isn't printed. I won't ask and I won't order (well, maybe extremely rarely if I've VERY intrigued, but without a face I wouldn't be VERY intrigued). What's the purpose of not listing your price? So you can quote a different price based on how interested or rich you think the client is?

@Unicorn really appreciate the comments. the reason I didn't have a rate listed is just because I have different rates depending on what I'm offering, but I've taken your advice and added a rate (although I'm sure I'm going to get comments about how its too high but to each their own). I've just added in the ad instead that "other" rates are available and I'll see how that goes.

In terms of face, it's just for many reasons, mostly privacy and prefer discreet, and yes I know I probably shouldn't expect much of that but I gotta try at least. If someone is legitimately interested then I'll usually send a picture anyway. Never had a complaint about the face pic so surprisingly this is the first I've heard of it being an issue.

Cheers :)

Of course, we all have a right to privacy. I'm guessing, though, that escorts who don't show their faces won't be able to command the highest prices. I'll pay big $$ if I'm hot and heavy for a dude. For me personally to be hot and heavy, I have to see the body and the face...

Let me broaden that: You'll get plenty of advice here!

Okay, I was going to say, 'You'll get plenty of advice here, some of it good'! On a technicality, 'You'll get plenty of good advice here', doesn't mean that all the advice you get is good!

That said, if any of the advice offered here is dubious, someone will tell you that.

Hi Slim and welcome to the forum. While there can be excessive levels of "drama" here sometimes, there's also a great deal of collective experience and wisdom that can help you out I'm sure. Regarding the face picture issue, there was recently a pretty thorough discussion of the pros and cons in this thread that you might find useful. http://www.companyofmen.org/threads/advice-needed.113750/

@saminseattle thanks for that link. It was a pretty good discussion. Fortunately (or is it unfortunately) for me I'm not in this full time and previously I was getting enough contacts to keep me busy so hopefully I just get back there.

On the same note, what about a photo with a edited or partially covered face? Is that better than nothing or is that too much of a tease where it's just annoying?

Make your own judgment, whether or not you are showing your face will not influence all of your potential clients. If you have enough clients then there is no reason to change. Bear in mind (and without re-reading it, I'm sure it's mentioned in the linked thread) that showing your face in an ad means it will be out there for all time, so there is a level of privacy that you will never regain.

Check out the ad for your local JuanBruno. He doesn't display a face picture but show "just enough" to give you an idea of his appearance. There's enough to tell if he's shaven or bearded, etc. You can get a pretty idea of what you would expect to see when the door opens...but also that aura of mystery. And he is, reportedly, very successful.

Pay particular attention to Juan Vancouver's post, number 16 in saminseattle's link. Juan appears to be quite successful and has a loyal following. His advice comes in well reasoned, full paragraphs. I hold his opinion in high esteem as do most clients seem to do.

Welcome to the forum!

I totally understand and respect the desire for privacy protection. However, from a client perspective, I won't hire unless I see a face. It doesn't need to be in the ad. For me, an email or text photo after we've initiated communication is fine. For my first hire, I reached out to 3 prospective escorts; one was ruled out simply because he wasn't comfortable sharing a face photo. It could have been my loss or his loss ... but it really doesn't matter. It's your business and you must be comfortable with how you run it.

This seems like a great compromise. If you send the photo in an e-mail, it's not on the internet permanently for posterity. But the client gets the information he needs to make a decision. I just looked at Juan Bruno's ad, also (I hope you did, too). He shows enough of his face for me to make a decision, without being fully recognizable. Also, not only does he charge about the same as you do, but his body is, to be quite frank, simply on another scale of hotness when compared to yours. I'm sorry if this comes off a little blunt, but his body is "Wow!" (assuming the pictures are current) and yours is... well, not. There probably is a certain market of clients who prefer a lanky body to a well-built one. But those clients are probably twink-lovers, and they probably would get turned on by a cute face more than anything. Of course, I may be completely wrong. If you do great business with the ad you have, you can just toss out everything I just said. But if I were a client in Vancouver and I had those two ads to evaluate, there's no question which ad would attract my interest and which I'd pass up quickly.

I also just looked at all of the Vancouver ads, and your fee seems to be one of the highest. I'm not sure how you came up with your fee. Oh well, time will tell if it works out for you in the long run. One more suggestion: I much prefer the term "masculine" to "straight-acting," which I find to be a little self-deprecating and offensive. I may be unusual, but I don't think anyone finds the word "masculine" offensive, and there have been strings here in which people have expressed dislike for the word "straight-acting."

Although an e-mail doesn't put your image out there straight away, you run the risk of it leaking. Maybe it will, maybe not, you have to trust whoever you send your pic to.

You and Juan are different people and you won't be chasing the same market, you may or may not get the same rate as he does. All you can do is test the market and adjust accordingly.

I was just going to come on and say the same thing.

I did look at Juan's ad and I do agree his photos are very articulate in the way of showing exactly what needs to be shown while still maintaining privacy so he definitely has my kudos.

Personally I wouldn't expect those who are into Juan to be into me and vice versa. I don't think I'd ever get a body like that no matter how hard I tried lol.

Well, the picture can certainly be "leaked" and even posted on the internet, but it can't be tied directly to the escort ad. If the concern is that you might be a famous politician or movie star someday, I don't see how a face picture can harm you if it isn't directly tied to the ad. This assumes, of course, that you aren't sending a naked picture which includes your face. A picture with you in swim trunks which shows your face, or even a face picture that doesn't show your body, couldn't be used for blackmail, I would think.
