NBC NEWS - Residents in Cortland woke up to a burly new neighbor on Monday when a black bear was found sitting in a tree.

Cortland police received a call just after 5 a.m. when a homeowner reported the bear sighting after it ran in front of their car. The city's Professional Firefighter's Association was called in to block off the street after the two-and-a-half year-old bear fled to a tree.

The 200-pound bear was tranquilized, but had a rough ride down, after he was asleep.

The bear was taken away by the Department of Environmental Conservation and is being monitored closely.

Police said this is the same bear that was found in a nearby county two weeks ago, and was removed from a tree in a similar situation.

It was then the DEC decided to tag and collar the animal.

DAMN - I thought my ass hurt from those three truckers -- but free drugs and a state trooper might be worth the fall!

Where are the

Where are the kids? They're out back. LOL!

I know... he didn't give a fuck, he was more concerned about filming this and uploading it to facebook, youtube, etc...

The problems is when they (cougars) see a person running or turning their back, they think it's a perfect opportunity to attack because the "meal" is either weak (running away), unaware exposing her neck to the big cat or even both in the case of a jogger.

I always side with the animals over the humans. I'd have respect for hunting if the fight was fair - I'd still cheer for the animals over the humans though. Its sort of interesting to contrast that so often "authorities" can capture an animal alive and release it to the wild (as they should) but aren't able to arrest so many people and keep them alive. Anyway, here's (I think) a great organization that I give money to. I've said it before but I only contribute to animal welfare organizations. If you like the site the link takes you to you can add it on Instagram and they post great videos of their animals regularly.
