Actor Dax Shepard opens up about molestation when he was a child.

Dax Shepard revealed he was molested by “a dude in [his] neighborhood” as a child.

 

The former Parenthood star opened up about the traumatic experience on Sirius XM’s The Jason Ellis Show, saying it was “minimal,” but that being molested by an 18-year-old when he was seven had a lasting effect on him.

 

“It took me 12 years to tell anyone that,” the 41-year-old actor explained. “Then all that time, I was like, A) ‘It’s my fault.’ As generic as that is…And, ‘I’m gay. I must have manifested this because I’m secretly gay.’ I had all these insane thoughts for 11 years or 12 years.”

I read in another article that a comment from his mother was enlightening for him. She works with people who have addictions. Her comment was that people who are molested have a 20% chance of NOT becoming addicted to something. His response indicated that this may have been a contributing factor to his addiction issues.
