The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) made a mark on me, with David Bowie starring. Vito Russo recounted a story about the making the movie :

 

 

 

With Bowie in the movie, I suspect Nicholas knew there would be a few in the audience as well.

 

 

 

 

The depiction of media saturation was almost prescient:
