Long shot I know, but...Des Moines?

Hi guys -- my work takes me to Des Moines a few times a year - next time is next week. I have a friend who entertains us all with the claim that there is no better place on earth than Des Moines. The rest of us laugh, and I'm not sure even he's serious -- just loyal to his roots. Even if it is a great place to live or be from, its a totally boring place to be stuck in as a sexually active, older gay traveler.

 

Here's the thing, I'm hard-wired as a top, with a preference for men not twinks, not youngsters. And -- to underscore the point -- men who enjoy the bottom bunk. Butch, straight-acting, etc. not a requirement -- but I like guys who are grown up, confident about what they like, well built and enjoy sharing themselves with appreciative oldsters like me. Adam4Adam does have ads, but after the Rentboy bust all of the ads are classified as "Masseur." However, some advertisers provide more information about their services than others.

I searched adam4adam for Des Moines (only didn't search surrounding) and only one PRO ad popped up, a black masseur - looked like a massage only type. But there was that one...no others.

In towns that size the only luck I've ever had is on Craigslist. Sometimes local guys who don't otherwise escort will come visit you in a hotel room. Best if YOU place an ad yourself, mentioning that you are "helpful" or "happy to help out...."....something like that. Anything more specific and I usually get blocked. I've met good looking and willing guys in Birmingham, AL, Memphis, Jackson MS...using this method. There are a lot of willing guys on the DL out there who are up for a one time thing. College towns are usually a good bet.

I have posted myself with great success on Craigslist. In the title I post "older gent for younger man", then in the text " seeking open minded friend.." Etc keep it generic, maybe put something like "I'm always on top of the situation..." To indicate you're top only?

 

Disclaimer: make sure you understand how to take care of your personal safety when "recruiting" from Craigslist, backpage, a4a. Try to confirm pics, voice phone call, meet in public place first, let someone know what ur up,to, etc.

Thanks again. Checked out Craigslist, and that seems to be the Des Moines portal of choice. Much more activity there than Backpage - though appreciated your search for me there Billy. I'm going to follow Mike's and Becket's advice, post an ad and see what happens. I'll be especially cautious Mike, always am and some of the CL ads sound kind of desperate -- like they were posted late at night after a few drinks. Ok, will report back on what, if anything, transpires!

Just closing this loop. Posted an ad on CL, guided by advice received here. Was quite specific about me -- confident, fit, older top, play safe always -- and what I was looking for -- fit, bottom, any age or race, no PnP. Got a strong response, nine in all, four with pictures, so the ad worked and CL is definitely the marketplace in Des Moines, both in the M seeking M section and the M seeking M subsection of the Casual Encounters section in CL. But I didn't really think this through, in that they all seemed to be on the down low. Duh, in hindsight why didn't I realize that was what CL is for? Couple guys said they were married to women, a few more emphasized how discreet they are which I took as code for the fact that they were either closeted or cheating, right? One could only meet if I had a place and he could "swing by after work." Two guys said they hadn't bottomed before but wanted to try -- looking for a visiting stranger to have that first experience with just sounded way off to me, either untrue altogether or indicative of some kind of confusion or drama that I just wasn't willing to chance. So, I'm glad I did this, because it confirmed for me that what I want when I 'm looking is really a professional offering NSA fun and thrills.
