Was that built in a u-shape with a pool in the middle? Two or three stories tall?

was it a pool or a jacuzzi in the middle or both..... Yes it was U shaped on Western avenue It was the sleazy version of San Vicente inn....which I realize is saying something...I stayed there with boyfriend once on a motorcycle trip up to LA and we didn't know what kind of place it was, only that it was "gay friendly" boy was it ever gay friendly. I knew something was up when we had to be buzzed in, not to the office but into the courtyard to get to our room. Within feet of walking in the courtyard there were 3 guys fucking

I found this pic online...I couldn't remember the name until I saw your post. I stayed there around 1992.

I understand it is now a decent straight hotel for tourists now.

Do hotels remain straight when the door to the room has been closed?

Well no...but back in the day, the Coral Sands was rather unique. It was basically a bath house masquerading as a motel. Yes I know, it was Hollywood, so what's the difference. LOL. But when gay establishments go "straight" dollars from our community are often turned down and turned away. I've seen it happen time and time again. Life goes on...I get it, but it was a wonderful time in LA, and I know you can't go back again (not sure that I would want to) but I do have fond memories of a community that was more defined, more exclusive and less apologetic. Anyway...feeling a little melancholy today, so that's my take. ;)

So true, but this place was like Bigvalboy basically a bathhouse with hotel rooms vs. closet rooms. A couple friends of mine stayed there shortly after the place "converted" and the cops were called on them by the management. Nobody had realized the place had changed and they were going at it in the hot tub which didn't go over well for the family that was staying in the room next to the hot tub. They ended up hiring attorneys so they wouldn't get a sex offender offense on their record.

I hired porn actor Chris Onasis when I stayed there. In case some of you don't remember him:

I just realized that i omitted the word "said" in the above paragraph so instead of saying:

So true, but this place was like Bigvalboy said basically a bathouse...

I said that Bigvalboy was a boathouse....for that I am sorry Bigvalboy....LOL
