A family member recommend I stick to one hotel brand. I love Crowne Plaza, as those of You whom have visited me 7/10 times I was at an IHG partner hotel. I reached the 3rd out of 4 tiers in their rewards programs. Great! Free room upgrades. Hahahahahahaha now the nightmare.

1. Crowne Plaza Atlanta, Mid town. Charged both a cash and credit card deposit but no cash deposit was ever listed nor was a receipt issued. No one believed me after two weeks of fighting over the phone I threw my hands in the air. It was $50 so I wasn't that interested in an ulcer over half of a hundo. Had an exchange of words with the manager and left 3 days earlier than scheduled and switched hotels.

2. Hotel Indigo, a sister to IHG. Rewards accepted. Free room upgrade :D stayed 3 days was charged 3 different times the full 3 night stay. A 400$ charge turned into an 800 then a 1200$ charge. Took management almost a week to fix. Still enjoyed my stay. Got my money back.

3. Doom Day- Crowne Plaza Charlotte, NC, suite upgrade++. Was issued 3 free nights from IHG to.supplement the following two issues. Was charged a deposit and was told it would be released after my stay. Long story short, I was accused of smoking in the room and was charged two smoking fees of 250$ and room charges of 558$. Today my bank reversed all charges. I would tell you about the verbal exchange with the manager at this hotel, but like the manager at the crowne plaza in midtown ATL, they'll both be attending management retraining classes due to their unprpfessionalism. I learned from the first manager to record all phone calls. Well--, IHG didn't have much to say until I pushed play.

I've been offered a free week vacation by IHG anywhere I want to go. Where I'm going to go is over to Marriott. I'm gonna become a valued member there and send IHG pictures of all the fun I'll be having.

I've been issued a new card and have blocked any charged from any IHG hotel to be instantly reversed. I'm glad it's all over. I'd like to thank Bank Of America for being boss ass bitches and fighting to good fight for me.

Avoid IHG-- Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inns, candalwood suits, Sturbridge suits, etc... or try the headache for yourself :)

Send all the details to IHG, including what they have made good, and see what they say. If you can convince them that they have fucked you over, their hotel managers will know not to mess with you.

It was three horrible.experiences back to back to back. It would seem it's me, but I've been doing this since I was 19 with the hotels. Never had anything like this happen before-- even ever once.

Even if you don't plan to use them ever again, send them all the details. You may find that corporate HQ take the view that what happened is bad for their corporate image and they will fix it.

also make sure to let them know that you will be telling ALL your friends and acquaintances that number in the hundreds, about your bad experience. word of mouth is big in business. the usual rule is one negative experience will be shared among at least 12 people, and that 12 people will share with another.. etc etc..

Keep thinking about the loving hugs awaiting you in Palm Springs. Remember: there are only three possible solutions to a problem...

Live with it. (Not possible in this case)

Change it. (You tried.)

Walk away from it. (Sounds like you've made your choice?)

Now let go of it ASAP.

I'm not familiar with IHG's rewards program. Can you use the points for merchandise, or travel, or......... Is there a way to empty the account of poins? It might be a way to dump them but not lose all the benefits you have earned. By the way, I am a LONG time Marriott Rewards Member and highly recommend them. My friend swears by Hilton Honors.

Cheer up. See you in PS.

Sounds like you were getting the typical franchise operations experience. I'm sorry to hear of your troubles but nothing surprises me with hotels. I work in the conference industry and could tell some stories of stupid hotel management.

I would advise joining all the major brands guest programs. You can still stay loyal to one main brand. But it's good to have backup options. Also certain brands can dominate a particular market so you need some flexibility. Also when you have a lousy series of stays like this you can switch hotels and still have some status.

Not that it will do much good but you could complain to the brand managers for these properties. Since you have decent status you might get some attention. It's possible they might offer some extra points for your troubles. But don't expect much so as not to be disappointed.

I've been inactive for almost two weeks. It has felt like a year, but I had a short fuze and kept to myself. I stayed running most of the day. Sick of them taking advantage of me. It's a very strong and unhealthy feeling to have to deal with.

Sorry you had such a lousy time. We missed you.

Try Sheraton and Westin, SPG!

They have a green choice program, if you don't ask for service they give you 500 points per day with redemption starting at 3.000 points. Free internet if you make it to 25 nights (including award nights) per year, and free access to the club lounge if you make it to 50. Every time I complain about anything I get 5.000 or 10.000 points which I use for free nights.

I had an issue with the Crown Plaza in dt Denver. I wanted to use cash as my deposit for charges to the room etc. The mgr on duty was a snotty lil prick. He told me that if there was any damage to the room my general mgr would be notified stat. Yes I used to work for an IHG property. I smuggly replied go ahead, notify my gm but my room will be spotless. I have yet to return to that property. I stayed at other IHG roperties of different classes and never had issues with using cash or otherwise for incedentals. I wonder if this is a Crown Plaza issue?

Hugs,

Greg

I actually just stayed with Westin while in DC! I love it! It was a little pricey, but ZERO STRESS or DRAMA, that's the kind of hotel stay I like! I never ask for help with my bags or to be escorted up to my room, like Greg says, my room also remains spotless. Some people aren't cut out for customer service. Having managed two retail type stores I know how imporant each and every word you say to a customer is. Strong words such as no, impossible, Can not, etc are NEVER To be used, no cons. Only proactive words. I would never tell a customer they were wrong (I.E. Cash settlement problem with an employee) I will sit down with the customer and go over the video tape with them, to let them see for themselves. That is the most proactive way to deal with angry customers. I wish everyone liked their job as much as I do. If I didn't love my money so much, I'd be going out to grab a couple drinks-- but instead, I will hit the shower, gym then the hot tub in my suite O:) all while waiting for my phone to ring.

I signed up with IHG, but always cancelled the last moment as something always never seemed quite right and/or I was able to get a better deal elsewhere. As such I have always had great luck with Starwood's SPG as far as being compensated if something goes wrong, and really nothing serious has ever occurred. Also, no issues with upgrades etc.

However, Marriott is taking over Starwood so you did the right thing by going with them. I just hope that my SPG points get fairly transferred to the Marriott program. Time will tell!
