So as I was perusing today's NY Times Sunday Wedding Section (11/21) to see how much younger and handsomer the gay couples were compared to me (and while sometimes guys are my age or older and occasionally I'm more attractive-I have to say as a whole-you apparently don't get to have your picture in the NYT Wedding Section without being a really hot gay man-am I the only one to notice this by the way?).

Anyway-there was one gay couple-and their announcement read that they had met through Adam4Adam- a dating site. Well you could have struck me over with a feather. You mean people from that site actually meet for dates? Of course to tell the truth, I don't know what Adam is for. Aside from meeting a few guys years ago advertising in the Pro Section, it hasn't done much for me. Of course neither did the more traditional dating site OKCupid.

I always read the NYT weddings section, because it is a fascinating gauge of what the country's leading newspaper thinks are weddings worth recognizing, not to mention the best way to see what is happening in the demographics of the upper middle classes. They usually mention how the newlywed couple met, and I wondered how they would handle that for same sex male couples ("they met in the back room of a sex club called The Sling"?). They have turned out to be fairly discreet or at least vague, but I have noticed that more than a few now talk about the couple having met at a bar--but then, they also have said the same about some straight couples, but it is usually immediately contextualized to indicate it was part of some social occasion. This is the first time I have seen a reference to Adam4Adam; will Grindr be next?

Think how it would delight the NYT editorial staff to be able to say:

The couple met through rentboy.com.

...Mr. Dombroski, who advertised on Rentboy under the name Ladislaw XXL, initially refused an appointment with Mr. Macmillan, who tried to negotiate his posted $300/hr. rate. Eventually the two settled on a two-hour appointment, with a reduced rate for the second hour. Mr. Macmillan, who goes by "Pookie," says it was a blessing in disguise that Mr. Dombroski initially rebuffed his offer for a one-hour appointment. "I could never have left after only an hour," said Mr. Macmillan. "I could hardly tear myself away after two. Now I'll never have to leave...

Oh wow I remember that!

the AOL M4M chat rooms! heck, I discovered I was really interested in guys rather than girls by talking to guys in those rooms; I believe it started the coming out process for many of us!

I met 2 of my closest friends on AOL M4M chat room. I probably would not have met these guys any other way since none of us were really "scene" type guys.

I also met lots of other guys for other things ;). What happened to that guy?
