I really do not think that Don Burns is as innocent as he wants people to believe.

What do you think he's guilty of, besides paying for sex and for referrals to men with whom he could have sex? DB has already admitted to this and testified under oath that he was not granted immunity for it. Nevertheless, the government decided not to prosecute him.

My only question is, other than his money, how does Don Burns differ from the rest of us who hire escorts?

Based on the commentary I've read, most people have an issue with Don Burns allegedly donating heavily to candidates and initiatives that are not friendly to the LGBT community. I said allegedly because I have not personally vetted their claims.

I've only recently become really aware of the escort world. My question is, how often does an extortion/blackmail attempt occur?

My opinion is that it does not occur very often.

Sorry but JW got EXACTLY what he deserved. I am SO sick of hearing "Promises were made he said he'd buy me an apartment never came throught with any of it blah blah boo hoo. YOU EXTORTED BLACKMAILED AND BROUGHT A LOADED GUN (yes not on your person but it WAS with you) And because of that you're now you're going to live out the REAL version of a gay porn flick. Burn's political and personal associations which I find vile aside, he was just doing the Mogul version of what we all do. He could EASILY have afforded to pay and keep paying and I'm sure the decision to fight knowing that ALL re his personal life would be exposed, wasn't an easy one. It's like the 1960 film "VICTIM" with Dirk Bogarde (a gay man in life) "playing" a gay married Barrister who decides to sacrifice his life and his law career and publically fight back. I say KUDOS o_O

Although I do not agree with most of DB's political and social positions, I also not not consider him to be whiney for having gone to the FBI. Extortion and blackmail is a crime. Jarec deserves prison time for what he did.

Thanks, Epigonos.

This "throw people under the bus" phenomenon really amazes me.

I know for a fact after 15 years of escorting that this could happen to just about anyone. I have been hired by people that were appointed to positions of power by virulently anti-Gay Republicans. I have been hired by business leaders who were not out. I have been hired by regular people who were not out and who I could totally mess with, partly because they hired me to help them come out. I could try to blackmail all kinds of people in all kinds of ways, if I chose. And no matter how clever people are at thinking they are safe, and how good they are at practicing caveat emptor, my view is that NOBODY IS SAFE.

It amazes me that people who use Rentboy or Rentmen every day are willing to throw them under the bus the second the government goes after them, and then fall back on some version of "but they were not perfect." Of course they are not perfect. Who is? Attacks on the websites we use every day to exercise the freedoms we enjoy and think we deserve have to be viewed as attacks on us all.

Meanwhile, when a scumbug like Jarec Wentworth comes along and abuses a client's confidentiality and trust and commits extortion, he deserves to get thrown in jail for a long time. I don't care if the client is Pope Francis or Donald Trump or the worst scumbag in the world. In fact, I'd hope the client is the worst scumbag in the world, because it could take that kind of person to fight back and say, "Yeah? Well Fuck You!"

Speaking of Pope Francis, I think I got a very good lesson in moral relativity growing up in a Catholic grade school and Catholic high school. I'm Gay, and the Catholic church preaches that while it is okay to be Gay, it's not okay to be a practicing Gay. Meanwhile, some significant percentage - I'd guess more than a quarter - of Catholic priests are practicing Gays. They've been clients, and fuck buddies. I don't believe in moral absolutes.

So yes, in a legal sense, there is no difference between prostitution, and extortion. Both are crimes. And it also used to be illegal for women to vote. If we treasure our freedoms, we should defend them, and defend ourselves against jerks that want to abuse and violate them.

I agree Burns is a criminal too. His amoral and cavalier behavior contributed to the outcome. There is the discreet hiring for companionship and then there is the blatant flouting of the law and near obsession like hiring behavior of Burns. I hope either Burns or Jarec have to pay the IRS the taxes due on money and other assets Jarec and others received. Money paid to companions isn't tax free. I look forward to the day we regulate and legalize hiring - taxes paid, healthcare mandatory, etc., etc.

Burns hired Jarec and others for sex, that's still a crime in this country unfortunately... After a fight about a payment Burn had already sent Jarec in advance , Jarec asked, and received 500.000 dollars for hush money and got even more greedy and asked for more...

One thing is a sudden lack of judgment, a fight, etc... but blackmailing someone is a serious crime, it takes time to plan and a cold blooded determination to execute, specially to someone who hired Jarec so many times and I'm sure would have been willing to hire him over and over again. Biting the hand that feeds you should have been considered as one more charge :)

I think Burns did something wrong many of us have done called paying for sex. Fortunately, many of us are small fishes and what could be blackmailed out of us? A toaster?

Sending Burns to jail would be the equivalent to sending an 18 y/o girl to jail after admitting she drank alcohol and got raped by a fraternity, rape in this case is what the prosecutors should go after, not the fact that she drank alcohol in campus.

Jarec is very handsome and I hope he'll go back to porno after serving his time in jail, I also hopes he escorts considering his employment choices would be limited and I'm sure his potential johns might think twice before sharing with him their cellphone number.

I think a true white collar criminal has been sent to jail for 6 years.

Now let's go after the folks who caused the 2008 financial crisis!
