The Rentboy crowdfunding effort "DaddysReviews Clients: Help Rentboy Staff" will end October 18th at 11:59pm. It is just $830 short of its revised goal. And there are just a few hours left to contribute.

Started by six male escorts to help our colleagues in the industry, we've raised $9,670 so far. But the revised goal of $10,500 will allow us to give each former Rentboy employee an amount of $1,500 each - much needed funds for them right now.

I want to, right now, very publicly, take FULL RESPONSIBILITY for how this campaign was run. A few readers of the forum have stated that the original goal of the campaign was too high. And that we didn't thank the people who donated, in the right manner of fundraising. Someone said the photograph in the campaign could have been better. Other readers of the forum have said it seemed the campaign was born from compassion that these men had, to help their colleagues in the industry, and even if "flawed", their aim was true. Those readers were definitely correct in reading our motive, and I am grateful to them for pointing it out.

But I want to state here, now, that I have NEVER spearheaded any fundraising effort. If the fundraising goal was too high and turned people off, I AM SORRY. If the photo of a jail cell was a stupid cheap shot at motivating people to give, I AM SORRY. And if we didn't regularly go into the forum thread and clearly state how grateful we were to those who did give, I AM SORRY (And yes - we are all VERY GRATEFUL for those who donated, by the way). I am not a professional fundraiser... I'd like to hope that perhaps I have other talents. So please - I am serious - forgive me for my shoddy work on this campaign. I was trying to quickly raise money for people who have worked within the escorting industry/community, who really need some help right now. It was a grass-roots-style fundraiser, and although it was actually spearheaded by four of the six of us, I was very much in the decision-making role, and I want to take the blame for all that was perceived as "wrong" with how we did it.

While the forum attacks about the campaign were flying, four of the Rentboy7 were keeping in touch with me about their mental and financial health. A recent message sent to me from one of the Rentboy7, explained the former Rentboy employee's situation:

"I have good days and bad days. Very tough trying to get a new job. I've had a couple of interviews, but they have a problem getting past the pending charges against me."

Simply Adam reminded us in another forum thread that the Rentboy employees were solid, committed employees who worked for an ad agency that connected escorts with patrons. Escorts were not in the wrong for advertising on it, and clients were not in the wrong for responding to ads. The industry of escorting has been allowed to evolve, he wrote, "Thanks in part to sites like RentBoy and Daddy's Reviews. The world is a better place because escorts are granted the freedom of aligning who they are with their trade, without their endeavors being determined by someone else."

He went on to state:

"I can only imagine the anxiety Clint, Coco, Eli, Jeffrey, Marco, Sean, and Hawk are enduring right now. And even though they've done nothing wrong by working for Rentboy, the stigma as well! This entire fiasco has stirred up a heap of old shames in attempting to rile up social blame. I know I'm not alone in feeling terribly reminded how on the margin of society I am, as we undergo the messy process of eventual decriminalization and, more profoundly, consciousness-raising this industry at large into an honorable - and honored - channel for global healing and transformation for pleasure providers and receivers. For humanity as a whole."

Readers of Daddys Reviews are asked to help now, as a final effort to reach the crowdfunding goal. The Rentboy7 truly need the financial help raised, and we organizers of the fund must close the crowdfunding effort in order to withdraw the funds.

Donations can be made completely anonymously if desired, with pre-paid credit cards (sold in grocery stores, for amounts ranging fron $20 to $500 per card).

Another anonymous donor gave $35! So now we're only $795 short of our goal!

Thanks to all the Anonymous donors whom we don't know how to thank. And of course, thanks to all the donors that signed their names.

You have zip/nada/nothing to offer an apology for. You did a selfless and nice thing, expecting nothing for yourself in return, for people who are in need. You should feel good for having helped them.

Conned? For trying to help people who are in a bad spot?

Isn't that what we do for strangers all the time when we contribute to one charity or another, or when we say, "Sure," to giving an extra buck to The Jimmy Fund because the cashier at the grocery store asked if we would?

Compassion and generosity are never wasted. Aside from whatever help they provide, they nourish the soul.

I feel bad for the naïve people who got conned into donating money. If you donated money, it was indeed 'cash for trash'.

I applaud your passion. But you might want to hold your fire, buddy. We achieved our first goal, and there's a lot more to come. We need you to save the most cutting and mean-spirited words you can think of for further down the line, when they are most needed.

Me too. That's my point. I'm grateful to him for helping us reach our goal

Yes, I thought he needed to hear your point from several people. Baron may have (on his own) put the fund over the top.

His snarky comments were so numerous, Baron should get a letter of thanks signed by the Rentboy7.

Baron, you don't need to donate but your mean spirited comments about those others volunteered to assist makes you look of low character. Hopefully you'll never need assistance, but if you do, I bet your poor attitude comes back to haunt you. Try confession and prayer.

As a parent, I learned a lot about "negative attention" when my kids were small. For years I only thought that it was something that only pertained to young children, but in fact I think we've seen on the forum that adults can do it too. So I googled the term and found this article about it - pertaining to adults and mental illness:

http://www.bullyonline.org/workbully/attent.htm

What I learned in dealing with my own kids is the basic rule that one doesn't reward the negative behavior with ANY sort of attention whatsoever. Just a thought as we move on, mostly in an effort to save ourselves our own precious time...
