It's cute. But I'm really surprised at the way Proctor and Gamble is being so blatant. I appreciate it. But they have to sell to Middle America to. I'm surprised they have the cojones to make ads like this.

It's a spec commercial, which means it's not being put out by Procter & Gamble; it's being submitted for consideration. But why would you use the word "blatant"? Marriage equality is the law of the land. There's nothing shocking about this anymore.

It's not shocking to you, Rick and not to me either. But it is still shocking right now to multitudes of people here in the Good Ol' U.S. OF A. Take a look at Kentucky as one example. Not everyone is lucky enough to live in NYC, LA, SF, or Seattle for example. Maybe in 10-25 years things will be different. But make no mistake. There is a culture war going on. In a recent poll 49% of people thought religious freedom trumped non-discrimination laws. Only 47% disagreed.

It's been going on for decades. So what? Marriage equality is the law of the land. Anyone who has a problem with it can just suck it. There are an awful lot of racists out there. Should we be shocked and stunned when there are black people in TV commercials?

Gay people. Fine. Black people. Fine. Black gay people. Fine. Gay black people. Well we do not want any of them in our commercials. (In case this is not obvious to one and all, this is said with tongue firmly in cheek.)

I'm not surprised in the least that P&G would consider this commercial. P&G wants to sell product. That means their ads need to speak to everyone. Additionally, a large company like P&G can help shift attitudes through their advertising. Besides, they probably want to keep that "100" score on the HRC's Buyer's Guide.

Yes-but-they will drive away a certain amount of customers too. I guess they did the math and figured they might gain more market share than they'd lose.

IIRC-and I may need some clarification from some of our Cincinnati natives here in case it's an urban legend-there are several shield-like blank 'plaques' on the sides of P&G Headquarters near the top. They look weird as they are round and blank. I was told that P&G's former 'satanic' logo (apparently they ditched it a few years back for a more prosaic stylized 'P&G') had been planned for those spots. But because some people thought the logo was demonic in nature, they never put the logo on the building. So in the past, if this is true, they were too worried about the trademark to put it up. Now they may be deliberately provoking the fundamentalists-or even the non fundies like Mr. Trump who just don't agree.

It's unfortunately been 8 years since I was last there-even longer ago since I lived there (I love Cincinnati. I used to have a wonderful set of friends there), but there they are-the blank shields at the top.

Proctor & Gamble had nothing to do with the making of this commercial. The filmmaker did it on his own, then submitted it for their consideration, and they rejected it.

Well that makes more sense. But I'm sorry I won't be seeing it.
