RentMen caveats

Me posting this isn't shady or backstabbing: For years I have had to contact RentMen about their email system. Multiple times each year I have had to tell them that their site isn't handling messages properly, because they weren't aware of any problems. I had a very specific phone conversation this winter about yet another entire itinerary that fell apart (Chicago, AGAIN), because communication was interrupted by their email functionality. In that particular instance, the client's messages continued coming to me, but my replies ceased going to him (and prior to the bug the client kept not switching over to his direct email to bypass communicating via RentMen). Eventually the client went ballistic on me for being rude and unprofessional. That was after years of me already telling the site admins that these types of bugs were an ongoing problem.

There are many features on the RentMen site that I think are great (especially not having to pay for separate travel ads - RentMen definitely should keep that function). However, I certainly hope this isn't going to turn into an airline merger wherein they raise rates without improving quality. In this instance, they should show that their email problems (which have existed since at least 2009) and server overloads are consistently resolved. I have been away for a week (Paris! Oh, là, là!), and couldn't visit the site while I was gone; however, before I left, their site would sometimes load and sometimes not. I just opened the page, and it is working right now.

I'm about to turn my RentMen ad back on (which I had finally discontinued a few months ago after several months of ZERO performance - far too many of the potential clients on that site were just looking to chat all day long), but I'm not doing it enthusiastically. My hope is that the people at RentMen, who have always been kind and gracious to me personally, will recognize that what I am saying is fair. When everything operates as it should and the ad actually performs, I will happily convert to being a cheerleader. Until that time, I'm about to be a begrudging customer.

I often had the same complaints about the other site, unreliable email system and server. I cannot remember how many times I was in a hiring mood, and the site was offline. I could only conclude that escorts didn't notice or care about their primary advertising venue, because nothing ever seemed to change. The misfires and outages were always their usual random self, right up until the site went dark.

I commend you for voicing your issues and recommending/demanding improvements. You care about yourself and your reputation, the quality of your services, and the accuracy and reliability of your advertising.

I've never tried to send an email through Rentmen's system, but I'm a bit surprised to read that their website wouldn't load for you consistently, Devon. Like others have commented here and elsewhere, I frequently did have issues with that other site loading or loading properly but I've never had that problem with Rentmen.

Shouldn't we speak more kindly of the recently, and dearly, departed? I mean yes there were often problems. But as Shakespeare wrote, " The Good the sites have done are oft trapped in their (seized) servers," or it was something close to that. :(

The fine folks at RentMen know how to get a hold of me if they want me to poke around a bit. ;)

Personally I haven't run into any issues with RentMen's email system. I could possibly see their system as flagging messages as spam then dropping them when you reply to the messages from your email. Keep in mind, you can reply to each message from the website and that seems to work very consistently.

I love email and all but honestly there are so many points of failure that texting tends to work the best. BTW, clients who are not wanting to use their real phone number for whatever reason, there are many free or cheap services that will let you get a burner number and do all your texting from within that app.

Oh yes--packet drops are a pain in the ass.

One can get a burner Tracfone at Wal-Mart for less than 30 bucks, and for you security paranoia types, that number does not go back to a certain person--just fill up your minutes and you are off to the races. When I was AD, we hated trying to contact chain burner phones....
