I had my right hip replacement three weeks ago. My recovery is coming a long swimmingly: Physical Therapy is a breeze and two nights running I've forgotten to use my crutches (bathroom runs).

It has been suggested that I wait until my doctor's appointment in a week before I drive. Also, I have a leg-length discrepancy that's driving me nuts. The right is 3/4 to 1 inch longer.

I'm going slightly cabin crazy. I went to a friend's surprise Birthday party, but otherwise I've been in.

Masturbation isn't cutting it anymore, and even the cat finds me boring. I won't watch TV during the day, and my selected book re-reads (almost all sci-fi) are not retaining their attraction with time.

HELP!

Thank you.

First of all - you forgot to get Paddington Bear - you could yell at him or have wonderful conversations and even sleep better.

If you can - get some outside time (don't know your weather, tho).

Why the re-reads -- get some new stuff. Get a Kindle and there are many sites for free downloads of all kinds of books. I have about 1500 now, most are still unread, and all were free.

Time for friends to come by after 5 PM for a glass of wine or ……

Hire your favorite guy and have him do disgusting things to you that do not require your active participation.

I LIKE funguy's suggestions, especially that last one !! :) Try going out to the movies, with a friend if possible, or hire a companion just for dinner and a movie out. I would also suggest that you get a massage, therapeutic, perhaps sensual, but probably not erotic in your condition, unless, of course, you are UP for that kind. In similar situations, I have found a good massage of any kind is very worthwhile. Good luck and hope your cabin fever goes away soon. Glad to know that surgery has gone so well. Not sure how you came up with that leg-length discrepancy, as an inch is a lot.

WEll, I'd bring a certain TB up here, but he's recovering. Another medical student friend will be by after he and his housemate go to Key WEst for five days. Theoretically, I'm on house arrest, to have home PT and nursing, as I'm anticoagulated and not able to drive. My housemate is a massage therapist, but I live with him, and a massage from him is just too weird.

Once I get my driving privileges back, I'll be in much better shape. I can start to go back to the gym and see the other personal trainer.

Thanks for all the suggestions, though.

Sending you lots of positive energy your way Gallad. Nice to know you are on the mend. And one of these old days, you will spring from the bed and hit the ground running. Cheers...

You are anti-coagulated and not able to drive or you are not able to drive because you are anti-coagulated? Never heard of not being able to drive because of anti-coagulation.

Guess you'll also be going for that orthotic/insert for your shoe! I have only a very slight discrepancy after back surgery and if I don't wear the orthotics, it is hell to pay!

Two independent ideas. Sorry for the confusion. Not post hoc, ergo prompter hoc either way.

Whatever you need, I'll FedEx it!

Glad to hear that your operation was smooth sailing and that the problems you face are pretty much the opposite of what you'd feared. I second getting more books to read (digital or otherwise). Magazines, websites (including porn, free or otherwise), whatever keeps your mind occupied. Unless you think it would instill a bad habit, it's not terrible to watch (prerecorded) TV during the day. Movies. DVDs, if you have any.

Even though you can't drive, going outside, even if it is only to walk around the yard (if you have a yard) or sit on a bench somewhere nearby that someone else takes you, is a good way to defeat cabin fever. Or meet up with a friend.

Here's hoping your recovery will progress as well as it has so far. I assume your doctor will have some advice as to what to do about the discrepancy in leg length.

Great to hear the good news!

I bought a Kindle Fire last month and absolutely LOVE it. Even if you're not in the mood for "serious reading," there are many fun, free diversions available. :)

To digress a little from the topic at hand -- I've had a Kindle Fire for three or so years (actually, I'm on my third, but the second was a warranty replacement) and cannot imagine how bored I'd be without it. You can achieve much the same functionality with any tablet (I'm only familiar with Androids, but I assume the same is true of Apple products), but the Kindle Fire, especially coupled with an Amazon Prime membership, has a lot of stuff (as in music and video) built in. Add Kindle Unlimited and I'm in hog (well, reading hog) heaven.

True...I forgot to mention the "Prime" membership. It's worth it for the shipping bonus alone.

PS SO... Gesq, whaddareya waitin' for? ;)

Recovering escort, recovering client, it sound like a great match to me !:) Think of the war stories you could tell each other.

Seriously, I do hope you recover soon and can resume some fun social activities.

Best of luck for your continued recovery. Glad to hear you are doing well.

Oddly enough your post is spot on as I have an appointment scheduled tomorrow with the orthopedic surgeon!

I had foot reconstructive surgery 18 months ago and while the foot has healed nicely and the surgeon is pleased with my progress, I have recently developed a pain in my right hip when I walk.

X-rays and consult scheduled for tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Specifically ask about leg length discrepancy. Unlikely, but some forget to check on that.

You probably just need an orthotic.

Wishing you the best. Others have shared some great advice. I would offer the suggestion of binge watching a great new show/series (I'm liking Sense8 right now) or surf some TED talks that you might find interesting and thought provoking. Most of all I offer congrats on the good rehab progress!
