Why do you think some escorts post pics in their ads that are easily found on the internet and link back to the escort’s personal information (ie Facebook)? Half their Facebook “friends” displayed are recognizable as the personal Facebook accounts of other escorts.

I know the FB account of one escort that has his last name on it, his escort pictures as well as his personal ones. If you search his number from his Rentboy profile, it will reveal his first and last name. People must know who he is and he must be comfortable with what he does.

I always assumed it was deliberate. Maybe they think it lends credibility. If a potential client googles and finds social media accounts of an unknown escort, he may think it's more likely the escort is "real".

I don't think it's as thought out as some here might suggest. They simply don't understand how the technology works. Just like the other posts about the guys using fake pics.

I mean think about it. Their moms, cousins, and anyone else can have potential access to their naughty escort pics and details. I'm sure most would be horrified by this prospect.

Alternatively, the escorts whose pics and/or phone numbers can be easily traced to their true identities might not care.

They may not. But then you look at their "friends" displayed and recognize a face or two or three from escort ads. I bet about 90% of all escorts advertising online could be found simply by surfing Facebook friends...

Some of this may also come from being technically unsavy. An escort may not want friends/family to know about their side business, however they may not understand how easy it is to search pictures online. I like to think I'm pretty technical, however I'm friends with many people that are not. When I show them some things that I think are pretty basic and simple, they're amazed.

Yep. Millenials are not overly tech-smart, as commonly assumed. I am amazed at how much personal info I learn about an escort simply by clicking on his ad pic and google-searching. Just two days ago and with little effort, I saw almost everything online about a young, new escort.

at times, I've bluntly told some escorts I've met that they better be careful because a very simple googling of their ad's phone number reveals a lot.....many reply that they don't care (i.e. they are fine with it, friends know, etc.).....it might also indicate a more tolerant view toward the whole escorting business, as if it isn't as scandalous as we older types might think it is

There clearly are two types of people who use the same photos and phone number in their professional and personal online presence: those who do not care if someone from one side or another learns more about them and those who do not realize how easy it is to search photos and phone numbers. As to the former, I have read a few (but only a few) interviews with guys who are clearly out as porn star/escorts to their entire families. Obviously, if your parents, siblings, other family members, and friends know what you do for a living, then you don't have to worry about concealing that from them; and if you're that open with your family there's little risk in letting clients know details about your personal life. I suspect that very few gay male escorts fall into that category, though, so I assume that the majority of those who share photos and phone numbers in their personal and professional online lives simply haven't thought about the potential for crossover. I always do a Google Image Search and phone number search before hiring someone (even a masseur), and it's not uncommon to find someone's Facebook or Twitter identity and, from there, learn the identity of their friends and family.

There is a difference between being tech-smart and being concerned about privacy. Several news stories have discussed the notion that as a group Millennials, rightly or wrongly, are less concerned about privacy than are Baby Boomers and GenX-ers.

I am always surprised when I encounter this level of naiveté in someone under 40 who advertises online.

Usually it starts with a conversation like this:

Escort: "I get a lot of texts from guys who won't hire me without a face pic. What was it in my ad that made you decide to hire me?"

Me: "I saw the full version of your cropped pic on Facebook. And I saw on linkedin that you're a certified Bikram instructor, so I knew you'd be limber."

Escort: "What the fuck?!??! Who are you? Are you some kind of hacker? That picture's not on my Facebook page."

Me: "It's on your brother's page. You're tagged in it. You didn't know?"

Escort: Frightened. Anxious. Wary of me. "I'm so fucked..."

Me: "If you want to stick around after we're done, I'll show you how to do an image search and give you some privacy tips."

This can be a real mood killer. I don't like frightening people or coming across as creepy. I've helped a few guys clean up their online identities, but I'm beginning to feel like a fool for taking their privacy more seriously than they do.

True true, but my comment is about smarts, and from my experience of trying to help young escorts, some things are definitely missing in many of these lads. Having a smart phone glued to one's hand every-waking moment of the day does not make a person tech-smart.

As a Gen-Xer, I find millennials not only are not always tech- smart, but they've become so reliant on technology that they often don't know how things work, at least subconsciously, (aka the old school method) behind the technology and believe the info given from whatever technology gadgets they used 100% at face value.

The upside to millenials' lack of social media discretion is that I can check 'em out and assess potential compatibility. I just struck one of 'em off my list after reading some of the BS he posted on his personal (non-escort) instagram page. I appreciate the opportunity he provided to avoid a hiring mistake.

Some guys just don't mind mixing their personal and professional lives - I know a few guys who are like that - one actually escorts using his real name. Others don't seem to realize (or care) how easy it is to Google info about them. Just over the past few months a simple Google of a potential hire's phone number has revealed (a) the escort's real name and in a couple of instances, his real home address, and in one instance, his employer, (b) a link to the escort's personal Facebook/Twitter/MySpace page

This guy, for example: http://daddysreviews.com/search/Active/dru/dru_oc

Google search quickly reveals his name, workplace, and LinkedIn profile. His work phone number would be easy, and maybe even his home number and address if I put my mind to it.

I almost wonder if it's a fake.
