Well, let me say this from a healthcare perspective...having an extensive background in Clinical Laboratory Medicine and peered in my fair share of microscopes over the years, even the straightest of the straight arrow boys would likely feel the uneasy churn of stomach contents if they were asked to gaze into microscope oculars and behold what's actually swimming around those areas of the female body when it's swabbed, placed in 1cc of saline and sent to the Laboratory for analysis.

 

If ever I needed any validation of what I preferred my tongue to be on.....Wet Prep analysis provided a sober, stark conviction.

 

Would a swab from a man's genital area look that much different? I'm not sure what you're referring to -- I assume mostly, if not entirely, bacteria and the like -- but human skin is human skin and male sex organs are homologous to female sex organs and vice versa. Good point. I still tend not to think of rimming as a variety of oral sex, but it is. The fact we're discussing genitals also kept me from thinking about this.

Actually, very different but not in the way one might think; Sure you could swab a urethra on a male patient put it under a microscope and see epithelial cells, and perhaps some normal flora (bacteria that's normally on the surface of everyone's skin); the same could be said about the female urethra.

 

Beyond that we're comparing pears to pineapples due to pure anatomical differences...the vaginal tract is a warm, wet breading ground for a number of normal bacteria, yeast, fungus and other unique associated pathogenic bacteria that men don't experience. Because of female anatomical design , sloughing epithelium, warm temperatures, etc. things like Trichomonas (sexually transmitted organism), GC/Chlamydia, Candida albicans (yeast), thrive in that climate.

 

While it's possible for men to contract some of these things in their urinary tract, it's does happen significantly less often because if you think about it. The area in question gets flushed with sterile water (urine) pretty frequently throughout the course of a day This all being said, in an ER setting the number of times such an analysis is performed on a male patient is significantly less (read, rare here) than a female. Men typically have very....outwardly presenting symptoms when it does happen. Where's a purple cow when I need him to summarize, hehe!
