I noticed that a reviewer today arranged for en escort to be picked up by uber. I have my uber app but I have not yet used it. I travel quite a bit but the opportunity has not yet come up. I was wondering if you can maintain anonymity while arranging for an escort to be picked up by uber. Are there any receipts handed out or any announcements of name or verification of any sort? In other words, if I arrange for an escort to be picked up by user, is my name and credit card shared with the rider? This is hard to understand from the uber site. Thanks

i used uber in january in fort lauderdale to get to and from Boardwalk. I think it is great. the driver has your name and phone number, he/she does not have your credit card number, uber has this. if uber is picking up someone else i don't see how they could get your information because the whole transaction is handled in the uber app on your device. i never tried to have someone else picked up by it, i guess once you have a driver you would have to call the driver to tell him who to pick up at the pickup location.

I don't use uber. I don't feel safe getting into a car with someone who is unregulated, possibly uninsured etc. I'll keep my business with the pros.

uber will know and keep in their record that you (the client) paid for someone name X (your name preferably) to be picked up from point A to point B on a certain day and time and it will be paid by your CC.

Is messaging escorts by pigeon next?

Don't see any reason for this. Once you schedule the pickup through your Uber app, it tells you the driver's name and car make/model. You would just phone your escort to tell him what kind of car to look for, then he would wait at the designated pickup point for the Uber car, just as you would. The escort could easily identify himself as you (using your first name) to the Uber driver, if the driver even asks. Uber does not have your picture on file, nor does the driver ask for the pickup's ID.

Uber drivers are nicer and they take their job as a hobby, many times a part time job.

Taxi drivers are usually cranky and in a bad mood. The 2 of them are strangers but the uber driver's identity is recorded by the company and available with just a click away, the taxi driver has a license but that doesn't make him any better and he's more likely to be overworked, tired, under the pressure of a union and hating his job.

Uber rules, taxis will only be effective in NYC.

Apart from one driver who just didn't show up, I've never had a problem with Über and use it a lot when traveling. As far as being "safe," DC cabbies appear to be some of the worst, most unsafe drivers on the road.

Good twist, I like it.

My experience with Uber to date has been that their drivers have been rather a good deal more normal-seeming people and safer drivers on average than taxi drivers. See also the case of CBS reporter Bob Simon killed in a crash caused by his livery-car driver, who was supposed to have been checked out by the car service but turned out to have a very sketchy driving history, all on the record.

AdamSmith answer perfect!

There is a previous thread about uber but not exactly on the subject of anonymity which I think it's a great contribution.

I never felt unsafe during any of the trips i have taken. Your statement made me look up Uber requirements and this is what i found: https://www.uber.com/driver-jobs I think some drivers probably know their area better than others but even my "pro" driver from FLL did not know where my hotel was on the beach I had to tell him how to get there with my GPS.

Exactly, they drive to make extra bucks. It's just less baggage and wear and tires in their mind, they only drive/work if and when they want to, just to get out of their house sometimes and have some fresh air.

Unions are good on many other areas but not on taxis, they're almost like a mafia, drivers have to make $90 per day and after that they keep all the money they make. Uber drivers if they work full time can make 1000 per week, not bad for a college student. I've met Lawyers, Realtors, etc who click they're free and available and drive people around while been friendly, networking and making extra bucks.

I use UBER on a daily basis. I have a personal account and also have clients who have ordered Uber for me.

To address OP's question: the only personal information that is shared is your first name. If you want to order Uber for an escort, he would need that information when gets in the car. The driver has no access to your last name or credit card details.

I read the link, and from what I understand, while Uber drivers make more, they also have to come out of pocket for wear and tear, vehicle depreciation, gas and vehicle maintenance, which no matter how you slice the pie, is no small change. Is that correct?

Depending on the type and age of the vehicle, and kind of driving you are doing the average is 56 cents per mile, not to mention the depreciation you suffer by adding excessive miles to your car. So the 19 dollars an hour that Uber likes to put out there is really much closer to ten dollars an hour. Driving your personal car in taxi cab conditions, you'll wear it out at a fairly rapid rate, when you consider the added depreciation from the excessive miles.

As a rider, by all accounts from those that I know who use it, Uber is fantastic. Almost everyone I know uses Uber now, and in my area, Broward County, they are now trying to work with Uber to be inclusive instead of trying to exclude them all together, which is a smart move, because Uber does not appear to be going away anytime soon.

Think that's true. Uber's pitch to drivers is that you already have your car sitting there with its attendant expenses, and the only expense that really shoots up dramatically from what it would have been otherwise is gas.

My last Über driver called the client's wife and I had to pretend to be "Jennifer," the administrative assistant.

Kidding.

Yes, but if my name is SEAN, I can just order uber from point A to point B (my house or hotel) and tell you Steven Draker: "Just tell the driver your name is SEAN".

AdamSmith already wrote this on a very direct posting.

Gentlemen: Cash is king, but if you have to uber an escort to you, just tell the escort your name explain to him to use that name to be picked up, get him ubered to you under that name, and on his way back home just give him extra cash and tell him: "go uber yourself back home..."

My first time in an Uber car was in NYC when an escort used his Uber account to have a car bring me to his place. I asked the escort about it later. He texted the Uber driver with my first name so the driver had my first name and only my first name when he picked me up. I've since created my own Uber account and use it all the time when traveling. I'm a fan. There's no guessing regarding fare, cars have always been clean, it feels safe and my wallet stays in my pocket.

I think countrywayboy's concern should be taken seriously though. Uber Drivers don't carry proper insurance. Private insurance companies forbid driving for profit. You need to have commercial insurance and it's way too expensive for the average driver. They have something that might appear real but I've heard way too many horror stories and yet to hear them paying a single dime to anyone in an accident.

They say they'll only pay as long as the drivers insurance is valid. However, if the drivers insurance cancels them due to violating their policy then said insurance is no longer valid. It's a real catch 22. Then it will be up to the lawyers to figure out.

Not to mention ignoring any and all regulations and treating their drivers like shit. I'm still totally amazed that Uber is allowed to operate in any area when clearly they're doing it illegally. Everyone has this look the other way policy because lets face it. It's cheap.

I find using the IRS mileage rate of $.575c is an easy way to estimate the cost (including depreciation, gas, maintenance, etc.) of using your vehicle. Sure, if you have a Prius or Bentley you'll calculate a different rate but for a quick analysis "most" people will accept the IRS amount. For me, while I can always use some extra money I'm not going to use my Bentley and become a driver for Uber.

Uber keeps all your information. However, you can put in any name you want to the driver. That's all they'll see.

they have more insurance than most cab companies do.

uber is great and deserves to be more places where cab companies monopolize. competition is a good thing
