I arrived a couple of years before those places all closed down. I only got to visit Chesapeake House once or twice. And what was the name of the place right near Dupont Circle. It was several floors and had strippers...

I agree that the proliferation of webcam strip show (where the performers can and do go a lot farther than any dancer in a club ever could) have largely supplanted these places. And zoning laws make it hard for clubs to open in most places. But I do miss the human contact. :-) Charturbate is fun, but looking and not touching isn't the greatest thing...

Sorry, fedssocr1... my memory fails me on your question about the place near Dupont Circle. I do remember a couple of bars just west of Dupont Circle that had shows at various times. I think the bars are still there, but as far as I know, there are no shows. We need to hear from our DC colleagues on that question.

You maybe referring to Omega, but I would rather say they had go go boys, it was a very light strippers show. Their kinkiest spot was a room upstairs where they would show porn and some action always took place. They closed about 1 or 2 years ago.

I think you are right about Omega. The upstairs room always had some action when I visited. I often stayed in that area too, so it was convenient. I met a few guys there and we continued our "conversations" back where I was staying. All local guys, and no money was ever exchanged in the process.

I never met an escort there. I was an attractive little slut before I gained weight, and half of my hook ups were in Omega. I miss the place.

Aaaah, Omega (nee The Fraternity House)! The back room was the best takeout spot in DC. And, all the boys were free! Perry, the upstairs bartender, was the best bartender around.

If I wanted to open a strip club now I'm not sure where I could.

I'm not sure if you could. There are only a limited number of nude dancing licenses in DC. The city has stopped issuing new ones, and old ones can't be transferred if a place closes. The days of Secrets are numbered. DC is in the midst of a deal for DC United to build a new soccer stadium there. That might dispose of the last license used for all-male strip clubs. DC did grandfather the licenses held by the 3 clubs torn down by the Nats stadium -- one was used for a new straight club, the second was allowed to expire and the third became the current Secrets. That might happen here. But despite the grandfathering, it took the owners forever to find a location for the current Secrets due to slews of NIMBYism by City Council members. Not sure the place gets enough business these days for the owners to go through that again. Once Secrets gets razed, the only option may be existing straight clubs holding gay nights like this place :(

I think you mean Rascals! It was 3 floors and a half block from DuPont. It was really too close to the circle- I believe the DuPont Circle Homeowners Assoc got that place shut down fast.

It was actually Riggs Bank that "encouraged" the club to shut down. The bank owned the property and started upping the rent and limiting the lease to one year at a time. Eventually, in mid 1992, the owner decided not to renew the lease and instead moved across the street, losing the strip club license in the process.

The building housing Rascals actually had two bars. The bottom floor called Rascals was just a typical sleazy gay bar. The top floor called Shooters was the stripper bar. One of my favorite strippers of all time, Francois, used to work at Shooters. Loved that place as well as Chesapeake House, La Cage aux Follies (replaced later by Heat), and Secrets (the strip club neighbor of Ziegfields, the drag show club).

What was the name of the strip club that eventually became Wet? Treasure Island or something? It was not as crowded or as crazy as La Cage was but I liked it. I fell in love with one of the dancers and we all know how that ended up.:(

I hear you! I've lost count of the number of dancers I've obsessed over. :)

Wet/Edge was originally the Lost and Found. Another great place long gone.

EVERYTHING... the guys are great, friendly and playful. I have been to a couple of the bathhouses and had a great time, been to the gay bars and met some very friendly guys who invited me back to their apartments. Wonderful city that is full of so much history. The first time I was there it was winter, there was a light snow falling and I walked to the Brandenburg Gate and just stood their in awe at the history that was represented there from Napoleon to the fall of the wall, etc. The light snow falling just added to the allure. I never ended up hiring any companions for my stay there, but might do that on my next trip, although I had such a great time on my own with out having a companion. I can't wait to go back. I have been lucky enough to get there three times in the past few years, and each time has been amazing. Good luck and spend a few days there if you can. The Museums are wonderful if you have any appreciation of history.

I agree - Berlin is fantastic! And it's not as expensive as Paris or London at all. With the euro so much cheaper now what a great time to go.

And if you are mad for ancient Near Eastern history as I am, you can go to the Pergamon Museum and imagine yourself Nebuchadnezzar o_O as you walk through the Ishtar Gate.

And then drop by the Neues Museum and say hello to Nefertiti.

I agree with you on Manhattan and Berlin, but I would pass on Tokyo. But I also agree on Thailand and would add Australia and New Zealand to the mix. Probably two months in each, leaving two months for me here where I currently live... :D Problem is I don't have enough cash to do all of that and still eat.. :(
