The last discussion I found on the subject was in 2003. (Have people stopped going to Palm Springs?)

Does anyone have recommendations for gay or gay-friendly resorts or other accommodations close to downtown Palm Springs? NOT nude resorts. (I don't plan on showing my body and I don't want to see anybody who looks like me showing their body either.) When I and my friends used to go a decade ago we usually stayed in Cathedral City, but I have no idea what the scene is like today and I've never spent much time in PS proper.

Also, thoughts on go-go boy bars would be appreciated (tho I admit I haven't searched the Forum on that topic.)

I plan on doing more than just hanging around the pool and going to gay bars this time so suggestions on other things to do would be appreciated. I did the tram once years ago. A fun enough experience but once in a lifetime is enough for me. I'm not an outdoors person, so hikes per se are not for me, tho city strolls are ok. I had talked with friends about joining up in PS for Modernism Week, but our schedules didn't agree, so I don't know what else would give me a sense for the mid-century modern in PS.

TIA,

Sunnylands[/url][/b], the Annenberg retreat in Rancho Mirage. You can visit the center and garden without a reservation, but you really want to secure a ticket for the full estate tour. As I recall, they are hard to get -- you need to get online close to the time they go on sale to have a chance -- but the tour is terrific. The link above should give you the details.

Hi SFViking

Email me privately or Call me and I would be happy to discuss Palm Springs with you. People are definitely coming to Palm Springs. Currently we are in the middle of our Film Festival and its quite crowded here. New Hotels, Retail Shops, and Restaurants are popping up all over. I have been vacationing here for 10 years and have lived here for 18 months and the changes are happening quite fast.

I would be happy to answers any questions you may have. Sunnylands is a must for sure.

Not downtown, but I stayed at the very colorful & emphatically gay-friendly Saguaro Palm Springs not too long ago.

http://www.jdvhotels.com/hotels/california/riverside-hotels/the-saguaro-palm-springs/

It's a repurposed Holiday Inn, with some resort/spa amenities.

Super convenient if you've got a car, easy walk to grocery/coffee/diner spots, and the shuttle to downtown proper (which runs constantly until 9pm or so) can definitely save some parking headache/hassle. They also loan (or maybe rent, not sure) bicycles to guests. Onsite restaurants are good. Staff is very friendly but seem not to have been trained in the "concierge" aspect of hospitality. (Simple requests can be met with blank stares.) I didn't love it, but would definitely consider staying there again.

If you are interested in mid-century modernism, go to the new Art and Design building of the Art Museum downtown. The Art Museum itself is also worth the visit.

I am always confused why someone ask a question and then someone will only answer by send me a private message. I see this on certain dancers, escorts and in this case a place I would love to visit. The reason I come here is to learn about a person, a place, entertainment venue and so much more! I would love to hear all about Palm Springs! Thanks!

Hotels: Already mentioned, but good, the Saguaro -although it isn't in downtown PS proper - it is a short car ride away. Have a pending stay at Alcazar that IS right in town (and next to a part of *the breakfast spot*, Cheeky's). A truly fabulous place is the Riviera Resort on the north end of town - very hip and cool and great property overall with nice pools. One other one to check out is The Viceroy - also close in to downtown PS.

Gay bars: Wang's for cocktails early on Friday nights (around 5:30 or 6 ish, I think). Hunter's has the go go boys and dance floor - very friendly bar tenders too. Spurline is the video bar with Showtunes on Friday and Saturday nights and is right across from Hunters. Tropicale is always fun for dinner and the lounge after.

Other things to do: There are self guided tours of the mid century architecture. Shopping in Downtown PS and in Palm Desert. The PS Museum of Art. Relax by the pool. Cocktail. Have lots of yummy sex.

Atlantagaguy you are absolutely correct. People do this a lot.

I have quite a lot to say about this great place I live in now. I just thought it would be nice to have a phone or private email chat with SFViking.

But it looks like the gang on here has covered it. All great suggestions.

Thanks to all who responded with suggestions and apologies for doing so late. (Just when I thought my schedule had cleared, s**t happened.)

Just so's you know...I started looking at accommodations near downtown ranked in descending number of stars on Yelp. All of the not-specifically-gay places were already completely booked. I started to panic and wound up booking at Tortuga del Sol, a clothing-optional resort. (I have seen penises in my day. I guess I can stand to be around a few gay, old, wrinkled ones.)
