Apparently it will not be observable on the west coast, unfortunately.

It's odd. Some articles I've read say it will not, others say it will.

This page says it will be visible: http://www.space.com/27332-total-lunar-eclipse-october-video.html

The selenelion will not be visible out west. Too bad. I could try to watch the selenelion from a thalweg, giving me the opportunity to use two obscure words that I'd never heard before today.

In what context did you hear / read "thalweg"?

I don't remember. Almost certainly someone's blog. It was used as if of course everyone knows what a thalweg is..

I was familiar with the concept; I just didn't know there's a specific word for it.

Thanks for the heads up, bvb. Now, what would you consider to be the most appropriate beverage for the viewing?

If the beach is your choice for viewing, I would recommend Bushmills Irish Whiskey, poured neat. Simple, clean, easy. Should you be at home, say on the patio, I would suggest Bombay tonic, with a slice of lime. I shall be having the latter, and toasting you my friend, ISC, and several West Coast forum members, from 3 thousand miles away. ;)

At 6:25 AM? Goodness. I would have thought an Irish Coffee at that hour.

HA! You do realize that at this 'locale' it will still be nearing the mid 70's plus, at that hour, but OK, let's scratch the Bombay, and we shall go with a little/or a lot of the Irish Coffee....depending. Excellent suggestion Gallahadsquire. ;)

Stepped onto my porch to catch the show in the sky. Lovely morning here. Just a regular ole cup o' joe in hand, but it's mighty tasty. :)

I'm jealous. It's overcast. :( I didn't even bother with the coffee. For some reason I thought of an old Bob Seger song and just sat and watched the day unfold. I think the time just before sunrise, is the best part of the day.

"I woke last night to the sound of thunder

How far off I sat and wondered

Started humming a song from 1962

Ain't it funny how the night moves

When you just don't seem to have as much to lose

Strange how the night moves

With autumn closing in"
