I was asked by Harrington Park Press in New York to do a critical review of their new book, released tomorrow. They sent me a copy, pre-release, back in July and it's taken me a month or so to work my way through this huge book and my review is shown below.

More of an academic read, it was very good and full of facts about male sex work

I also bought it - Kindle version - but find myself more skimming than reading as it is definitely a "research" book and not a tell-all.

No.... I am publishing the tell all book when I am 76 and you're all passed away. My retirement pension

Thanks for providing the overview on your blog. Sounds like a lot of interesting research and worth the read.

Also agree with your comments on the lack of reference and research on older male sex workers. Perhaps this is a newly emerging development, although it would be interesting to trace historical precedents. I remember once hearing about the older gentlemen who situate themselves on cruise ships and offer themselves as dance partners for the widows on board looking for a dance partner - this as a sort of precedent. I'm sure there are more. Anyone needing an academic research topic here? Hello hello?

Sounds like a substantial read, but worthwhile. Thanks for devoting your bedtime reading to this effort!

it's obvious from the title that it's not a tell all. what were you expecting?

Thank you very much Nate

I was overwhelmed when Harrington Park Press approached me directly a few months back to review it, they had been following my blog for a while and even commented to me, privately by email, that although my blog was sexual in parts, it was mainly a conversation about every day life in the industry, therefore they thought my blog was a fitting medium to review their publication for the UK Market, amongst others.

Those guys are hired by the cruise ship. I never thought of them as escorts, but I guess there are degrees of everything.

Chris, I'm reading Jo Nesbo, a Scandinavian crime writer. If you want really interesting ways to die, he's got it and then some. Long, cold winter nights must do something to the imagination.

A collection of scholarly essays like this is catnip to me.

You're telling me! It's about $35 for the Kindle version, which I bought. You can return Kindle books within a week.

I am about half-way through this very well-written and documented study (and yes, it is more a sociological-psychological study than anything else and the enormous bibliographies and footnotes attest to that). There are some very interesting analyses of both escorts and clients past and present, and while a good part of research seems to have been done (so far) in UK and Australia there are also ample samplings from US including mentions of Rentboy and this august site.

Just saw this small tidbit on HuffPo

Once I get through with the stack of books sitting on my nightstand I might have to check it out. Sounds interesting. Most of my clients would probably not be personified in the book though. Everyone is different and I would never write a book or even talk about someone else. I respect their privacy! Hugs and tugs... Scott
