Mascherano: "I tore my anus"

Argentina's midfield enforcer got way more than he bargained for when he lunged to block Arjen Robben's potential game-winning shot during Wednesday's scoreless semifinal draw with Holland.

 

"I tore my anus," Mascherano told journalists after los Albicelestes prevailed, 4-2, on penalty kicks to advance to their first World Cup final in 24 years.

 

"That's why I was in so much pain. I don't want to sound crude, but that's what happened," he added, according to La Nacion of Argentina."

 

 

Has anyone experienced a similar thing?

He must have had some other experiences the night before the game. Maybe some of the guys on this Forum who are physicians can comment, as I can't fathom how playing a sport can tear the anus!

I do not ever recall a player being out a game or a season because of one big ol' tear to the anus.

I have heard competitors yell at the opponent that they were "going to rip him a new one" but never have I heard of someone ripping the old one in the heat of competition.

I guess they weren't yelling Goooooooooooooooal but rather Hooooooooooooooole.
