Let's say one is having a conversation with someone about golf.

What are some questions one might want to ask? I've already asked about the person's dream course. Answer: Augusta. (Duh, I should have known.)

Any other good questions? Thanks in advance, guys. :)

Yep, golfer here. Just ask how their game is and they won't stop talking!

Thanks, MLFV. Does that mean how well they've been doing on the course lately?

How about equipment? Do golfers obsess about that?

If you want to be specific you can ask him Ho w he is doing off the tee and if he has any tips on a good driver. How is his short game and is he doing anything special to work on it. Does he prefer the longer putters to the traditional putter. Does he have a special type of ball and does he think it makes a difference. So there you have it ask him does he like his balls, is his putter long or short, is he driving it well and how about his short strokes and tell him you are not asking about his golf game.

Dream courses are usually Augusta, St. Andrews, and Pebble Beach.

All great courses. I use to be an 8 handicap but strain my rotator cuff in a ski accident. Now after 14 holes I fall apart. Shoulder hurts too much. So I don't play as much. Great game when you are plating well but when you aren't its the most frustrating game in the world!

Gold has changed so much with all the advancement in technology. It use to be a strategy game. Now with the big drivers and the hybrid clubs its so different. It's good for the game as more people can play a decent round but its not the same. Just ask him about his best round. You will get an earful.

Too Funny! I didn't see it coming ... although, truth be told, I find golf to be terminally boring: Right up there with Basketball and Tennis. Cricket, on the other hand, is fun to watch, if for no other reason than drinking Pimm's Cup (No 1, of course).

Thanks, PK, MrMiniver, MLFV, and Sam. Some great ideas above.

Hehe, PK immediately knows the individual in question is a guy I'm dating. ;)

Augusta is by far the least accessible of the three, right?

I would say Augusta is the least accessible.

By far. Not even likely you can ever golf there. You have to know a member and there are precious few of those. And the times for golfing there are very limited and usually only when the weather is very hot in the summer. I played one round there about 30 years ago. Afterwards, it was like I had died and gone to heaven. I never wanted to golf anywhere else again. But you have to get over that.

It's also the hardest ticket to get in sports. It's far easier to get a Super Bowl ticket than a ticket to the Masters.

Let's say you're a very wealthy, connected Wall St person. Is getting a ticket doable?

Only if a patron or member is willing to give/sell you their ticket. And very very few do. There is a lottery each year for tickets and you can enter ... but the odds are against you. But I would definitely try because it is a life-changing experience.

Thanks for all the info, guys. Conversation flowed more freely when I could talk about Augusta.

He claimed that getting a ticket to the tournament is not that tough, though getting a round in there is a different story.

I'd like to know who this person is .... getting a ticket to the tournament is extraordinarily difficult.

I reckon being from Jawja helps to have some ticketed acquaintances. Practice round tix and early round tix are not difficult to acquire. Sunday's round, however....you must know someone or expect to pay a premium price.

Augusta National is an amazing club and course. Unfortunately, I have no connection with a member, so I have never had the privilege to play a round there. :(

If by "difficult to acquire" you mean very very expensive then you are correct. Even for the practice rounds, expect to pay upwards of $500 for the privilege but it's a great experience ... less people and you really get to be up close with the golfers and you can take pics and stuff which they don't let you do during the tournament.
