Rentboy has redone their format. It's quite stunning!

Looks like a copy of the Rentmen.com layout if you ask me. Took them....what...three four years to copy a competitor's better interface? Imitation is a form of flattery ya know.

 

The search function is a glitch-filled mess, at least in my early experience.

So far not a single entry will load for me, so a fail. I thought it was just a reskinning at first, but now I'm not seeing the ability to block someone from the index page (although I'm not sure what "cut" is for as nothing works. Perhaps that is the new "block"??

 

They have more work to do for sure!

 

A little more playing around has made it clear that the scissors is for the circ. status. Closed scissors means cut, open uncut. The open scissors looks a little threatening, like they're just waiting to be snipped. LOL

I just tried a few links from the Deli section of this site. Most of them worked. The ones that didn't may be a function of the ad expiring and not of the site upgrade. Just a guess, though.

 

The search function is a glitch-filled mess, at least in my early experience.

 

Can you be more specific. My cursory search worked ok.

I was having the same issue. I cleared my cache and that seems to have fixed it.

 

I'm still having trouble setting my availability and have a message out to them on that. Let me know other specific bugs as you find them and I'll try to pass them along.

I am not so sure this is an improvement.

 

I used to be able to load up about 20 or so ads at a time and scroll them quickly -- now only 1/3rd load up and very slowed down and it is hard to even read some of the graphics (e.g. the "fee" section is so dark-on/dark print you have to really look hard to even see it.

 

On the "search" - it is even worse now. I preferred the original search engine, and even on the previous up-date you could switch to the older version. That now seems gone. The thing I liked in cities called the "warboard" has not been working for over a month anyway and now it simply is GONE. This was a quick and easy way to see who was (most recently) on line (and again, not nearly as good as the one on Rentmen).

 

I give this a C+ on its rollout... More and more I find that my first choice for seeking action is and will be RENTMEN.

I went to http://www.rentboy.com last evening [4.14.14] and noticed the new format. The site worked; I like the brightness of it; I still prefer its competitor http:http://www.rentmen.com though and wished the San Francisco Bay Area had many more escorts advertising at this particular site! I'm with Decatur Guy!!!

Once you get to an escorts individual ad the text falls completely apart. It is actually funny where the program breaks words at the end of a line. You have things like you'r next line e or marke next line t. It is actually like reading a puzzle in places.

Yes, but, if you know the Screen Name, you can go to Advance Search and search by Screen Name.

This is NOT an improvement... one of the most anoying things about the new format is that it breaks up words.... and may be an on one line and d on the next line, etc., etc., etc. Who ever dreamed up this new site doesn't know much about web design and it is filled with all kinds of glitches as well. They should scrap it and go back to their former website... at least that worked most of the time.

Really -with all the ads and hoopla- I've usually found Rentboy slow to upload completely. And on my iPhone often it used to cause Safari to shut down. I'm hoping this new one is better. So far I find the color scheme very attractive. I do agree the the original search was better. If it's not on there now, I hope they will add it back in soon.

I think the problem was right after they first changed the site. They've since fixed that -because earlier I was having trouble, but now I've been able to reach most of the ads on the links listed whether they have a 'www' in the link or not.

The problem for me at least started long before they changed the site. It's been going on for several months. I do think that Irtwo is correct, I have long suspected that it is how posters are linking to Rentboy and then posting those links on the MF. If you read his post in the Message Forum that he provides the link for, I found the exact same thing to be true, that is, when I ran across a link that did not work from Rentboy that was posted on the MF, I would go to RB and find the escort, and repost the link that I saw. In every situation, the link that I posted was different from the link that the OP had posted, and it would work. What was confusing is that very often links that wouldn't work for some members, would work for others.

 

Now that we are all totally confused.... Hopefully they have straightened all of that out.

I use a Macintosh and surf with Safari. I found an extension called Ad-Block that prevents the ads on webpages including Rentboy from loading and therefore SPEEDING UP THE PAGE LOAD - it puts an icon on my toolbar so I can load ads if I want to see them. All I see on Rentboy is content - photos and verbiage about the rentboys - no more advertisements.

 

Adblock is good for Google Chrome, too. https://getadblock.com

Yeah, I notice RB has updated from a mid-90s look to something closer to Y2K, but their problem has always been reliability. When I need 'em (horny & ready to hire), the site doesn't work. It's probably still unreliable, hence the same ole RB.

How can the supposed industry leader have such an outdated website? It makes no sense to me. I am a HUUUUGE fan of http://www.rentmen.com . I am beginning SLOWLY to hear from more new clients from that site. It is very frustrating when you have by far the BEST product but most people dont even know you exist........ I like the new look. I love being able to thumbnail the ads to get more on one screen. On the downside, I tried to go to the site on my iPad last night and couldn't. It performed horribly and froze my safari every time. Who creates a website these days that isn't optimized for mobile devices? Hopefully that will work itself out though.

The ability to thumbnail the ads existed in the old site, as did many of the issues that have been articulated in this thread. Rentboy is, and always has been, a crappy site. Rentmen is a much better site, but until the majority of escorts abandon Rentboy for Rentmen it will always be an also-ran. Of course, one has to wonder whether Rentmen's servers could handle the traffic that Rentboy handles.
