I read a comment on another site which prompted me to watch it on demand. First episode was, just fair - continued to watch the first five episodes and it sure looks like "looking" is going to be an addiction for me. Just like QAF brought back memories of my younger days; this series does the same thing for me. Anyone else watching it?

I've watched every episode. It is getting better, IMHO, but the 30 minute format makes it hard to develop the characters, since there are so many of them. The last one was much better with only the two guys, and it was pretty graphic and again, IMHO, I thought pretty well done. I haven't heard if they are going to renew the series, but hope they do and that they also consider a one hour format so the characters can be better developed.

Two weeks ago I watched an episode of Girls, basically it was her "gay" episode. It was fun. After that, I tuned into Looking having ignored the last few episodes. I turned it off after about 10 minutes. I desperately hate the cinematography, the sheen over it. It's the same sheen they used over that awful Weekend film earlier. I could suffer through that, however, if I found the characters remotely interesting. I think they are terribly dull. I really wanna like it. I really want it to succeed. I don't think I can and I don't think it will.

I love it. Thought Episode 4 was hot, hot, hot... but agree, that the 30 minute format is very limiting. That's might be why Ep 4 was so good. It only focused on two guys.

You can sit through "Girls"??? Every time I turn it on, there's Lena Dunham either butt ugly (and I mean that) naked or in a bikini. Talk about suffering.

And as for the sheen. Well, at least, it ain't Charlie.

To give Charlie his due--he was mighty cute back in the day--and really he's not toally awful now--except his mental illness of course.

The first episode I watched was last week's ep #4 I think. The one with Jonathan Groff's character taking off from work and spending the whole day getting to know the Latino character he'd just started seeing. I really liked it, and loved how it depicted the awkward intimacy and walking on eggshells at that point of a budding relationship. That being said, I then held off watching ep#5 because I wanted to see #s 1-3 first, but I had a hard time getting through #1, although it was pretty late and I fell asleep. There's definitely a lot of potential, but some parts need some fine tuning, IMHO.

Ok....so I'm 2 episodes in & here is my take away: (keep in mind that I am recently divorced & relating to the characters on a MAJOR astral plane & I have had 2 glasses of wine)...

Sorry, I don't know the names of the players...(I've been working with a client for two weeks & as much as I enjoyed my time with him, I'm glad for the "down time" & just trying to "zone out").

I LOVED the dynamic of the 3 way in episode one...VERY grown up (and HOT!)...

We've ALL had a bad first date...usually I pick up the check to escape early & avoid the pettiness of who had what..

The "uncut" scene made me LITERALLY "laugh out loud", as I remembered MY friends giving me the same advice!

Do I think the show is groundbreaking... "NO"...it's CLEARLY no "Queer AS Folk", BUT, as a gay man BACK in the pool, "looking" (see how did that?!)....

Even though I'm kind of seeing another escort (fingers crossed & cock HARD!), while HOPEFULLY on the road to the NIRVANA of an "adult relationship", this show is VERY enjoyable watching & not an insult to my intelligence.

Ok...onto episode 3!

Fire away gents....

I haven't seen any of it. Keep forgetting, but Ace can "fill me in" while in Palm Springs over a wine or 2.

The show has gotten better. And I am not sure that you can always judge quality television by ratings.

The fact that is shows any kind of gay sex at all is important. What other show is doing that these days? "Modern Family"?.... please. Cam and Mitchell are (thank God) asexual and are only tolerated/celebrated because they are the funny sissies, that old nonthreatening stereoype as old as Billy Haines/Wally Cox and Paul Lynde.

And the scene where Griff gets rimmed and then cums in his bf's mouth was a little past vanilla. The conversation they had afterwards, ("Did you have pineapple yesterday?") was as frank and true to life as it gets. Also, the jealousy between the friends, the judging of new boyfriends, the overall competiveness of a bunch of gay men rings pretty true as well. How about when they are discussing telling your parents that you are gay and you know that all they are thinking about is "the dick in the ass".... "Oh, you must be butt fucking now". The show has made alot of valid and honest points about being a gay man.

I am disappointed that there are only two more episodes. Not much time to see where it goes between Groff and his boss or Dom and Scott Bakula or Augustin being a rentboy... I sincerely hope that HBO does renew it and gives it a chance to develop and find it's audience. Otherwise, I guess we are just stuck with the higly rated = quality mess that is "Revenge" and that sexy bisexual (really??) sissy sidekick or the nauseating almost girl on girl depiction that is Blane and Kurt on the almost unwatchable "Glee"....

"Looking " may not be as good as it should be, but it's honest and the closest thing to showing an accurate portrayal of modern gay men that we have had, maybe ever. To me, it's as important as the BBC "Queer as Folk"... when Stuart had Charlie Hunnam on his stomach, his butt inches away from his face, and said, "They didn't tell you about this, did they?" and proceeded to show him what he had been missing.

Now, that was must see TV.

while I agree, low ratings won't keep this one on the air for long

showing gay sex on cable television doesn't really empower the community- this show, so far, is a one trick pony. without writing that makes us give a shit about the characters, there is no show. Looking has not really fleshed out any of the guys the way queer as folk did

Question: Is Season 1 available to watch online?

i think so. I've watched it on this iPad via the HBOtogo app. Did the same on my iPhone until I thought the better of it. I was at the time on the recumbent bike at my local, very hetrosexual Gold's Gym. Didn't want to get these hot closeted locals here in South Texas TOO excited.

Glad to see it is going to a second season. It really needs to be a 60 minute show, however, as 30 minutes does not give it enough time to develop the characters, and only 8 episodes? That too is not long enough, IMHO. Well, we can always look forward to another season, as I think there are only two episodes left.

sundays' episode had the one liner of the year uttered by the character turning 40 when he said, "On your 40th birthday grindr mails you your death certificate..." truer word were never spoken!

That's fantastic. I don't like the show but I'm happy it got picked up for second season, we definitely need explicit gay sex on TV.

Speaking of explicit gay sex, if you haven't seen Stranger By The Lake yet, GO. Not only is it a well made kind of film (one of those compelling mysteries where there really isn't any mystery), but it has more penises than any non-porn I've ever seen. Even more than Porky's 1!

Steve, I think the app is called HBOGo, or HBO Go. Just enter "HBO" it should pop up. HBO has no problem with you using the password of a friend who subscribes to HBO, there have been articles in the times about that very fact. Enjoy.

I am glad the show has been renewed. I am going to go against the grain on this and say that while the 30 minute format does leave me wanting more, the rigidity (sorry) of the format forces the writer to focus on one specific plot concept. Most of my career was spent acting in shows with 60 minute formats and we seldom told a story as crisply or realistically as some of these episodes. I agree with others that the show does offer a true viewpoint of how we talk to and interact with each other.

Good for HBO.

I've watched since the first episode. I want to like this show, but I can't relate to it in any way. It reminds me of the casual sex that happened when I was a young man. Perhaps this is occcuring again among young gay men? I find Jonathan Groff very appealing, endearing even. I also don't think the 24 minute format helps the show develop characters. I'll keep watching but I was hoping for more from this program. I guess we should be grateful it's at least not being done by Ryan Murphy!
