Well going on my annual cruise with Norwegian Cruise Lines, the Epic. My third time on Epic. Going with

I've cruised NCL the 'Gem' and the 'Pearl'. I have found that it really depends on where you are going and what time of year. The Caribbean of course is amazing during the summer months when many of college boys tend to be is out, or anytime when the spring breakers are cruising. Other than that on NCL and Celebrity I have found an older crowd. On one cruise on NCL I came damn close to hooking up with this gorgeous guy from the Baltimore area, but it was the last day, and I was with friends, so I got to the party but couldn't dance.

 

Another experience was up at the 'Sky Bar'. I saw this guy at a table with his friends, and I went up and sat at the bar right behind him. He approached me and we started chatting. Two hours later, several shots of tequila and we were suddenly best buds. For a straight boy who had hooked up with a girl on the cruise several times, he became very flirtatious.

 

I think the 'Sky Bar' is the best place in the day time. Most of the younger crowd hangs out there, and it overlooks the pool so you have a great vantage point. You could also try the Jacuzzis. They are relatively small as you know, so starting a conversation with someone is very natural. During the day and late evening I think is best.

 

And lastly, I had success years ago on a cruise while working out. I always get to the gym no later than 7 am. I have noticed that the guys who work out regularly at home, tend to carry that same habit onboard ship, so the gym regulars tend to get there early. By the third day, seeing the same people that early in the morning, usually starts a conversation. At that point, going to the steam room is obvious. The steam room is always isolated in the back of the locker room, and very few people go back there. Just a few thoughts I had. I have not had great success, but my approach has always been, if it happens, great, if not....no worries...."nothing ventured, nothing gained". Good luck.

I have a friend who used to work on a cruise line. He said that the best place to meet/meat was in the gym/locker room/ and especially the steam room and sauna, and he said that the best time was rather late in the evening. Mornings were great to meet, but the hook ups always were at night in those same locals. He was not able to participate as fraternizing with the passengers would result in immediate dismissal. But one of his jobs was to see that those locations were kept clean and stocked with towels... he was a manager, so he could go almost anywhere at anytime without arousing suspicion. He said that he was flirted with a lot (He is a tall, strapping blond, who looks good in almost everything, and is very well equipped and likes to wear slightly tight pants, but not overly obvious). And thanks to DD. I have never tried these venues at night. I am guessing that the steam room would be wonderful, as would the 'Sky Bar'...That area of the ship is not well lit, and most passengers are a couple of decks down going back and forth to the theater and the clubs. Something to think about...

I was just on a Celebrity cruise. They had a general announcement saying that LGBT passengers would meet each night at 7 at a particular bar. The bar was predominately straight but it was a way to meet other gay guys.

I'm shocked to realize that I've been fairly successful on cruise ships...

 

On one cruise, I met one of the dancers from the production show in the steam room/sauna, and we moved to one of the locker room showers for some pretty intense playtime. In retrospect, I think he was probably taking a considerable risk by "fraternizing" with a passenger, but it was lots of fun. (BTW, generally the "crew" are not allowed to use the passenger gym/steamroom/sauna, but "staff" such as entertainers are allowed in passenger areas.)

 

Another time, I met a much younger (but still quite legal) passenger at the disco as he was actively cruising the women. I assumed the role of his "wingman" and hung out with him for quite a while as he unsuccessfully tried to pick up the girls. As we were wandering the ship, I made some lame excuse that I needed to stop by my cabin, and he followed me, fully realizing what was going on. Clothes fell off and he eagerly explored new territory, I believe. It was hot, but when it was all over, I could see the color drain from his face as he realized what he had just done -- and how much he liked it. As he put his clothes back on, I tried to talk him through it, but he bolted out of there. I'll always wonder if that moment was a turning point for him, and I feel a little guilty that I opened such a big emotional can of worms for him.

I thought about taking the Miami-Barcelona trip in April, but 7 or 8 days at sea seemed more than I could handle. The idea of hooking up on a cruise sounds fun, but I don't think I'd have much luck. I've thought about taking a "gay" cruise, but those trips look like they are full of young bunnies who would have zero interest in a middle aged man.

 

Maybe all the posters here and all the escorts should book a cruise together? Dam, I'd end up spending my retirement in a lust filled week.

Hey Becket, In regards to the gay cruises. That was always my concern also, but you should know that the guys come in all shape, sizes and ages. You owe it to yourself to go on just one, and see how much fun they can be.

Rocky, the staff is usually a sure bet. Even though they have policies, those in the hospitality area are usually very "friendly". It's their job! I hooked up with the male version of "Julie, the Cruise Director" on more than one occasion. Being single and taking your mother on a cruise is usually a dead-giveaway!

I can see myself - or at least could have before my career fell apart as the loneliest guy regarding hook-ups on the ship. My main thoughts always were if I have no luck at bars or bath houses why would I have luck on a ship.

 

I guess my situation is a blessing. Even if I was tempted to try a cruise even knowing how it would turn out, I can't now.

Absolutely right. And that includes the officers, too. I was once on a very boring cruise with relatives until I discovered this, then I had a blast. You have to meet in secret, but that's part of the fun.

I'm taking Cunard from NYC to Southampton and back this summer. How are things on the Queens these days? I will have a cabin to myself, so I am able to host. Years ago I did the transatlantic crossing (both ways) on the QE II and found it to be rewarding in so many, many ways.

I think you are looking at this all wrong. First of all let me just say this. When I say that gay cruises are filled with all shapes, and sizes, and ages I'm very serious. Are there guys that look like they just came off an Andrew Christian ad, absolutely, but there are guys on there that are 5'10" and 280 pounds also, and guys that are 60 and have never been inside a gym. You can't ever go with the mind set that you need to hook up or that hooking up is all that is going on. Just go and enjoy talking and socializing with a ship full of men who have one component of their life in common.

 

That being said, the money part I get. Put it on a bucket list...you just never know.

Has anyone been in or stayed in the single rooms the Norwegian Cruise line Epic offer? It looks to be large enough for a bed, it has a bath and a flat screen TV on the wall, but you share a lounge with other passengers. It looks interesting and maybe another area to meet single cruiser.

Since the topic of gay cruises was brought up, let me say that regular/straight cruises and all gay cruises are different as day and night. There are endless possibilities to meet and get acquainted with nice and interesting people on all gay cruises (even if you're slightly overweight and over 50, Gareth). People from different ages mix quite well on the land tours and excursions, at mealtime in the restaurants, in the theater, in the gym, on the dance floor and in the steam room ;-) ... On the other hand, if I were on a straight cruise, I'd enjoy the company of my travel companion, but I wouldn't waste my entire time 'cruising' the predominantly straight passengers and crew in searching for sex and hookups. There are plenty of other activities onboard that will keep you entertained. ;-) Have fun, Rocky!

I agree with Steven. Gay cruises have all types. Not everyone has a 6 pack. Not even close.

They're fun but I usually spend at least one day locked in my room just sitting on my veranda

looking out at the ocean. You need a break after being cruised 24-7. At one point I found

myself chatting up the straight female crew members, just to take a break from gay gay gay.

 

Don't get me wrong, gay cruises are a ton of fun and I'm sure very empowering for the 95%

of gay America that doesn't live in a gay friendly mecca. Just make sure you pace yourself.

 

Straight cruises? Done lots with straight friends. Flirted here and there with staff. An occasional

late night rendezvous with the entertainment staff. Yes, they get to fraternize more, but the

whole time they will be paranoid about being caught. Those ships have cameras almost everywhere.

Don’t worry, the gay crew knows very well where the cameras are and aren’t. Just be prepared to

have fun in some very odd places. Forget about regular crew. You'll never see them outside of when

they're working their post.

 

Lots of fun with a former Yugoslavian water polo player turned masseur. He loved girls, but

"they don't like to play rough like you do". He was fun and I ran up one hell of a spa bill

on that cruise. I have a hard time believing no one heard all the noise me made....

 

Other gay passengers? Too hard to get them away from their elderly mothers. Don't bother.
