Movies: No butts until 1969

I watch a lot of old movies.

I look at men's butts.

Never the twain have met, at least not in a good way, until Robert Drivas' butt got seen in 1969 in The Illustrated Man (and I don't mean Rod Steiger's butt).

I clicked the link earlier and just scrolled through the page, looking at the photos but not reading anything. So when I read your comment I was a bit surprised, but now that I've gone back I see what you mean. There's a lot of funny stuff in that blog and I've just started scratching the surface.

Back in my closeted days, I had (still have, someplace, I'm sure) a guidebook of nudity in the movies - "The Campfire Video Guide". Divided into male & female nudity, and the male section detailed just about every male nudity scene he could find. The women's section had a higher threshold to get in the listings because female nudity was so much more common than male nudity.

Without dragging the book out I can't see if 'The Illustrated Man' was the earliest; I remember "Brother Sun, Sister Moon" had a famous butt-shot of Graham Faulkner, but that was 1972.

Len Whiting had a rear nude scene in 1968 in Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet, but if I remember correctly (from Dad's Playboy's, "The Year in Movies" article), he wore an 'optically invisible jockstrap'.

I'm remembering now that "Kiss Me Kate" had Tommy Rall, Bob Fosse, and Bobby Van in tights, tights, tights, and before I got bored with it, I'd seen Fosse's butt in long shot, looking fairly fine.

Maybe there's some here?

But did his butt ever get seen in the movies? I'm thinking "No" because a friend of mine was the biggest SR fan, and was giving me "a tour" of the best, hot SR moments in his movies. He never came up with a butt shot, only legs.

But then I don't think he had "Athena". Does anyone know if he or Mr. DuBois got their butts on the screen?

I thought it was a little earlier, but at one point I ran out of things to watch on Netflix and watched all the Academy Award winning films in order. There was a clear break, it seemed like one year they were demurely sleeping in twin beds and the next they were romping around naked. It was that fast a change.

They've had naked guys' butts in movies long before. You should take a look at "Search For Beauty," made in 1934. They show it on TCM every so often. There's a locker room scene of hot college athletes and their naked butts as they head to the showers.
