I made some postings on Thursday, before the revamp. I can't find any of them now. Are they all lost forever?

Not only postings but some entire threads are missing (if not forever, at least right now).

It's good to see that the new Message Forum back. Thank you, Daddy, for your hard and strenuous work this week.

+2

I too made a post or two early Friday (CET) that seem to have vanished from the Board ... but "lost forever?" (not so sure)

If memory serves me right, some time ago Deej said that "Everything You Put On The Internet Never Disappears, Even If You Delete It" ...

Not only postings but some entire threads are missing (if not forever, at least right now).

Starbuck, you've got an easy solution for that !

On Daddy's M4M Message Forum's main page, in the upper left corner of your screen, right below the main orange logo, you'll notice two tabs (or buttons): "What's New?" and "Forum". "What's new?" is selected by default ...Simply click on "Forum" in order to see all the threads.

If that fails try checking your "filters" in order to include the largest number of recent and old threads. I hope this helps.

Thanks, Steven, but sorry to report that there's definitely stuff missing. I checked my profile and it seems that any posts I made--plus one thread I started--in the window between 4 hours and 2 days ago are gone (at least for now). Nothing earth-shattering, so this is just an observation not a gripe. (Too glad to have the site to gripe about it ... that would just be rude.)

I'm not privvy to all the gory details of the upgrade, but I do know it was more upheaval than upgrade. Four letter words were used.

If I was guessing (and I am), just based on posts here it looks like a nightly backup was used to recover from the failed upgrade. If Daddy (or the software itself) had to go back to a backup to recover from upgrade failure, posts made after that backup would be lost.

If you were guessing (and you'd be safe in doing so), you might wonder if vBulletin's future here might be limited. It just might be.

Why do I now see a red X under every poster's name? (I can't remember what used to be there.)

Is the red x replacing the avatar images for you? (Everything looks fine for me.)

I see the avatar image (if there is one), the poster's name, then their rank and the colored circle that indicates the rank.

I see the poster's avatar (if there is one), name and rank ... but NOT the colored circles.

I don't see red...

I see a "white X" in a "black box" which is in turn enclosed in a "white box" that is located where the colored ranking circles used to be...

Avatars seem to be intact...

No "X"s (or any boxes) showing on my screen ... odd that we are seeing different things ... maybe we should all just move over to the Gallery and look at the handsome men?

Well I've got nothing...No avatar and no colored circle indicating rank. I would imagine all of this will be worked out eventually, but I don't come here for the pretty color circles or the avatars, I come for the (ahem) articles....;)

The surgically correct (but wholly unhelpful) answer to the question you asked is easy. You see the red "X" because you're using IE.

The Zen of HTML is that browsers should degrade gracefully when a document can't be displayed as specified in the markup language. If an image is missing, nothing should display.

Firefox displays nothing. Safari displays a little box with nothing in it. IE displays the red "X".

That's the great thing about standards. There are so many of 'em! ;)

I don't like when they display nothing when something is missing because then I don't know that I'm missing something. Often the missing images don't matter, but sometimes they do so it's nice to know when something is missing.

I use IE 1O on my computer and Safari on my phone... and I never saw a red x by the way in IE.

At any rate, all looks the same on both this morning... so mission accomplished... the planets have been realigned properly... all is better in the world... plus I like the fact that "What's New" and "Forum" are back to where I am used to seeing them.

Now a question that I asked in a thread that I started that has gotten no replies... so I will ask it again here!

How does one us the "Photo" section in "My Profile"??? Is it active? Thanks!
