I was just looking through some of the NYC Backpage ads. Some look very hot, indeed. I don't recall much discussion on this forum about the reliability of the guys who advertise on Backpage. Anyone with experience can advise?

So, I have confirmed what I always believed - using escorts is a waste of time. I'm sure there may be some legit guys out there, but there are so many fakes and rippoffs that it isn't worth the effort to comb through the chaff for the wheat. Lol.

Backpage has enough scams as it is. If you add the term "European" to the ad, the probability independently adds to the chance of the ad being a scam on any site unless he is well reviewed.

It's a harsh conclusion but you have some valid points. The fakes, liars, cheaters, scammers have gotten way out of hand. It's no worse on backpage then it is on Rentboy or Men4RentNow. It frustrates me enough to at least curtail my hiring. I also approach every ad now as if it's a fake (i.e. guilty until proven innocent). The good news for me is that I finally grew a pair and have no problem walking away from those scammers and cheaters which I used to allow to take advantage of me.

I totally agree with this. I hardly ever hire escorts, for the reasons I stated above. But when I occasionally decide to give it another attempt, I take a very hard-nosed attitude. If the guy shows up and isn't what who he claims to be, I sent him packing in no uncertain terms. And I won't go out to meet anyone who will not send me a spontaneous phone pic before I go.

 

Fortunately, I live in New York, which is within driving distance of Montreal. The Adonis strip-club in NY, plus the Montreal clubs, offer the chance to meet guys before making any commitment. I didn't even let him in the door. I told him I didn't pay for false advertising, and closed the door in his face.

 

I really believe you have to steel yourself in advance, and be mentally prepared for an escort who doesn't resemble his pics. Don't even let him in the door, and don't engage in any sort of conversation. Otherwise, you are asking for an unpleasant experience.

The guy who showed up looked nothing like the guy in the pics, who apparently was a young actor whose photos my so-called massuer had hijacked. I must admit I suspected this would happen - the pics were very professional, not the kind of amatuerish photos taken from a hand-held phone camera that you often see on escorts websites. And they were not totally naked, which is another reason to suspect they might be pics of some legit model or actor, hijacked from the internet. I guess the motto should be - if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

 

Obviously these scam artists apparently get away with this enough to make it worthwhile. (I went through Backpage and identified several other ads for young "European" masseurs that I am almost certain are fakes.) I suspect that many customers are reluctant to cause a scene, or are so horny that they take whoever shows up. To protect yourself, you simply have to make up your mind in advance about how you will react if the guy who shows up is an obvious fake, and act accordingly.
