It seems like he's probably another victim of substance abuse. Sad, indeed:

Monteith spent time in rehab early this year, checking into a drug addiction treatment facility in April.

He had been frank about his struggles with substance abuse, telling Parade magazine in 2011 that he began using drugs at 13, and by 19 went into rehab after his mother and friends intervened.

I hate to say it, but I fear we have another young star dead of substance abuse. Unfortunately. like in a lot of occupations, the performing arts can attract those who come from seriously dysfunctional backgrounds, have been abused or have ongoing chemical dependency issues. And I also hate to say it, but my greatest sex partners was a guy who fell into this category. He was also a sex addict who could climax multiple times a day and loved getting head more than anyone alive. Now, if I could just find someone like that with a good head....on his shoulders!

Ah yes~ The foibles of Hollywood~ Fictional happiness challenged by real life situations~

Very sad though regarding the loss of his talent and his contributions towards watchers of the show and younger talents coming up~

Though I am not a big fan of Glee, ( I prefer the Glee writers other show American Horror Story), I recognize Cory as one of the many talented performers on that show~

I always wonder where the support is for these talents when they need it~?

Lost too many friends and work buddies this year to "recreational" drugs, misuse of steroids and suicide~

There needs to be better outreach/support~? IDK While I am sad, another part of me is pissed and just thinks its unacceptable and unnecessary loss~

I'm a big advocate of "drugs suck~ They take/ruin lives"~

My new motto for the year: "Escort Hugs not Drugs"~

I think that was uncalled for. I, for one, cared when it was James Gandolfini, who's hardly the image of young studliness (and who didn't overdose but whose former drug habit contributed to his general poor health). It's sad when anyone is lost to drugs, period. But we do connect with public figures, for good or bad, especially those we consider talented. And if someone brings up his fat balding accountant buddy ODing, we all might offer condolences even commiseration, but there's no shared experience and therefore shared sense of loss.

James didn't kill himself.

What I wrote is so very true.

Right. It's rather hard to mourn the loss of someone you're not aware of. One would think that would be obvious. We know about Monteith because, by definition of being a celebrity, he's in the public eye. Fat balding accountants may die every day, and I'm sorry for that, but the problem is we don't know of them, so we can't grieve for them directly. It has nothing to do with what they look like; it has everything to do with being aware of them in the first place. And I agree with JScott - that comment about not giving a f*** was totally uncalled for.

Odd, though - I sort of have 2 degrees of separation from Monteith, even though I didn't know him at all. But it is a small world...I used to accompany voice lessons for a young man who then went to college in NYC, started landing theatre gigs (he was in the casts for the recent revival of Hair, and for American Idiot), and of all things along the way, started dating Lea Michelle (also of Glee, of course). (For a while, I was bragging that I used to play piano for Lea Michelle's boyfriend, lol.) They broke up, but I just read that Michelle was currently seeing Monteith. So my thoughts are with her tonight as well.

Bull s***!

If Hugo Reyes, God-forbid, met the same fate I doubt there would be such an outcry over the "devastating loss."

I think the only person we would not give a fuck about passing is Twinkboylover28 ! ! ! ! ! ! In fact, many people would probably celebrate the passing

Both of you can go to your room. Count the fuzz in your navel and maybe someday we'll let you back into the grownup conversations.

An escort I follow on twitter said something to the effect of who surrounded this kid, what were their intentions and how long did they know and allow him to self medicate

Cory Monteith, whose body was found in a Vancouver hotel room over the weekend, died of a "mixed drug toxicity" of heroin and alcohol, authorities say.

"At this point there is no evidence to suggest Mr. Monteith's death was anything other than a most-tragic accident," the BC Coroners Service says in a statement released Tuesday.

Police spokesman Constable Brian Montague said, "There was evidence in the room that was consistent with a drug overdose.
