I don't think that it would change. I am one of those people, who just doesn't worry about getting busted. I never have cared. Perhaps I am naïve or just a little stupid, as I know many members here have gone through 'Hell' and back with law enforcement, but I always hire well reviewed escorts, have never really hired off the street (well perhaps when I was younger) but not in many years, and never hire off of BP or CL, and so I have never worried about the legal pitfalls of hiring an escort.

How would your lives change if all forms of sex work were legal in America?

T

Hey T,

I really don’t believe that if sex work or escorting were completely legal that much would actually change. The majority of clients would still want total discretion. In addition, I doubt that most clients would be any more open about hiring. Sex between consenting adults in this country is completely legal but married/partnered men and women still tend to keep extra-relational sex on the down low unless their primary relationship is an open one.

Whether legal or not, sex work will always be a private and personal service for most clients, IMO. It would be interesting to hear other sex worker’s opinions on this question. What Mikey is basically saying in his response above (IMHO) is that sex work and escorting are not illegal now since payment is specifically for “time as companionship/consulting/tour guiding,” and not sexual acts. Therefore, whether it becomes legal to charge for sex or specific sexual acts instead of or in addition to time spent with a sex worker, the legal issue should make absolutely no difference.

While I agree with much of what you say, it should be noted that people are arrested for prostitution and solicitation on a daily basis under current laws. I believe there was a thread within the past month about a crackdown in some Northeastern town, with dozens of men being publicly shamed by arrests. Putting an end to such arrests would be a significant change.

I read this question to a client on the phone and we both agreed that it wouldn't really change much for either of us. There might be more competition, but again escorting is not something just anyone can do. While the legality may keep some people out of the game, it's the idea (or fear) of being intimate with people you don't want to be that screens most people out. That is the #1 question clients ask me about escorting: how do you deal with seeing people you're not attracted to?

And using Mikey's logic, escorting is for all practical purposes "legal" anyway. It's the aspect of discretion that remains the main concern, since the majority of clients are married or would prefer privacy about their sexual habits. I don't see that ever being dependent on the legality or non-legality of escorting at all. I still find it unusual when clients tell me they are open with friends or associates about hiring.

Seeker,

Thank you for the correction. I have to agree that your point is completely valid. The legal nightmare that many clients who are caught in a law enforcement sting go through, by having their personal information and/or pictures published in newspapers or online, seems much too harsh to me. The legalization of sex workers would certainly change it for the better and do away with that whole entrapment issue!

I would be the wealthiest, most respected pimp that ever lived.

Quite amusing Xander. I believe you are one of the most respected professionals out there now, even though you are not “working” this summer. As for pimping, could your future business plan include a group of fine, vetted escorts you will make available in the near future? Building on yourself and James, perhaps? :D

The," how do you see guys you are not attracted to," question is BY FAR the most commonly asked question as CHRIS corrected pointed out. This is why so many new escorts wash out so fast and it is the answer to another question often asked: When you see a really cute guy waiting tables or doing physical labor and you know he isnt making really good money so you think to yourself, "Damn he should be an escort...." Well he cant! He has probably either tried or at least thought about it but his dick, mouth and butt just wont cooperate. Ladies know this game well which is why some hot ladies end up with a rich guy who isnt hot and has a little dick because she can do it but other hot chicks end up with a broke hung hot guy as a husband cause she cant do it. A woman marrying an unattractive rich guy for his money is prostitution plain and simple but our laws dont reflect that ...........

Mikey, I think it's hard for men to understand how different women's preferences are from their own. Most women don't care much about how a guy looks as long as he's average looking and, for some women, tall. Dick size, in the straight world, is mostly a tool for men to compare themselves to other men; most women find big dicks to be painful and certainly don't need them to have clitoral orgasms.

Many (though certainly not all) women are innately attracted to accomplishment and/or power, so they would be more attracted to the average looking powerful guy than the hot, non-accomplished young guy. Contrary to what many men think, this is rarely a conscious attempt to improve one's material situation; there are women who are purely interested in money for its own sake, but they are not as common as people think. Instead, it operates on a very primal, animal level just as looks do for you.

Tyro, feel free to disagree with me on this.

Well... I would still Escort, (be a Male Geisha Escort), as opposed to being a prostitute~

Ty -- I just saw this thread and your answer. You know I love you like no other, but that answer hurt me to the core. You are about the furthest thing in the world from a prostitute. You are, in fact, a Male Geisha Escort, as you have shown me time and time again for the last 3 years. You are all that every escort should ever hope to be. I know many here on the forum count themselves as lucky as I do to have you in our lives. You give of yourself so openly, so freely, even to a newbie like I was 3 years ago. I wouldn't be where I am, who I am without you, and you know it. Without you helping me figure out my place, figure out who I was and what I wanted as a newly open and out gay man, I wouldn't have the partner I have (who loves you just as much as I do). You are my sensei, my teacher, my guide, my friend. You have done more for me than I could ever hope to list or repay. I constantly think of you and your words of encouragement and guidance. And seeing you refer to yourself as a prostitute mocks everything you are, everything you have ever done for me and countless other men here.

You ARE a Male Geisha. My geisha. And for countless others as well.

For me it would not change anything. I also do not hire off the street and use daddys and rentboy as a place to find the individual I would be interested in.

My friends are also aware that I do enjoy the company of a good man from time to time. It is a part of my life and I see no reason to hide that.

I don't think it would change my life in any way, but I think the "sex industry" as a whole would become regulated by the government (which can be good or bad), and frequent test results would and should be available upon request. Sorta like CarFax when you're shopping for a vehicle... So in essence, I think it would become more safer for the johns.
