Muguets des bois are lovely and remind me of visiting my cousin in paris each spring. Happy May Day!

Mycotic stomatitis is a fungal infection of the mouth, like thrush. Perhaps it is another name for a Lily of the Valley, but in a brief search i did not find that.

Thanks. The "mycotic" thing came out when I was fast-translating "muguet" from French.

I knew it didn't sound right for such a beautiful flower.

Well... The last thing I expected to see was a picture of a flower when I clicked on this as I did so from the main page and only saw the mycotic stomatitis reference. Perhaps a picture of something fungal such as Candida Albicans... but certainly not a Lilly!! Therefore, for a fleeting moment I was a bit confused... or perhaps I should say more confused than I normally am.

At any rate, I thought this might be a thread on a more serious subject and how mycotic stomatitis can be a ramification of HIV. While I'm glad that the thread was celebrating the first of May, perhaps a bit of awareness regarding the appearance of oral fungal infections is not a bad thing either...

Since I was very young, I haved always loved Lily of the Valley and still have them as an integral part of my landscaping. I remember walking out in the woods to pick wild blueberries and seeing the whole area loaded with these wonderful flowers. To me, they are a true sign of spring and a new, bright beginning

Thanks Steven

Is it still PC to call the plant a wandering jew???

I don't know what the official Botanical name is, but at my local garden center in FTL, "Wandering Jew" was on the tag, and the garden manager did asked me if I liked "Wandering Jews." To be honest though, Florida is still the South, and well, you know how Southerners can be. I did check the internet briefly before I posted, just to make sure that was an accepted name for the plant, as I know that everyone wants Political correctness these days, but several websites used that name also. So I am comfortable with it. Of course if it bothers people, we could just call it "The hanging plant by the front door"....I would be good with that.

Actually, my response was tongue in cheek. I HATE Political Correctness and believe it has gotten way out of hand! Sorry, to have made you do those Internet searches. And besides, with you being in Florida and all, I think "wandering Jew" is appropriate!

lol...I got the tongue in cheek, but I actually did the Internet research before I even posted, that's how worried I was about being PC.....what happened to the world? We worry about everything...and yes, lol "Wandering Jew" IS very appropriate, especially being down here in Broward County, now the question is, should I hang Christmas lights?

As a non-PC person... I got quite a kick out of the above few postings... as for BVB hanging Christmas lights... perhaps he should use them to decorate his Wandering Jew and call it a... ummm Holiday bush... naw ...make that a Christmas Chaunaka bush... That way he can cover all the bases...

Just saw this WG...that is laugh out loud stuff....I'm terrible at growing anything, but if come Christmas, and God willing, I haven't killed the "Wander Jew" by golly I'm gonna hang those Christmas lights as you suggested WG.

I just hung a 'fern', 'spider plant', and 'wandering jew'...does that count as a spring planting?

I wound up fucking an escort who advertises as "top only". That has been my favorite planting this spring and I doubt there is going to be a gladiola which will be as satisfying.

BVB... Well I'm happy that I made you laugh. Usually my posts drive you to drink or light up a cigarette. Still, along those lines please don't subject your Wandering Jew to any secondary smoke and definitely don't water it with any alcohol laced beverage... and it just might make it to December!! Good Luck... and if an appendage turns green let it be one of your thumbs!!!

BVB,

So far I've divided and replanted 30 perennials, put 80 cannas and 85 dahlias (short, medium and tall) back into their beds, and fertilized everything. I'm also tending 30 pots of seedlings. I've yet to divide and repot the water lilies...that's on the schedule for Thursday. A couple of hanging baskets? Wandering Jew? I don't think so. :p :) :)

OK seriously, you're doing all that and still have time to post in the gallery? And I must say that it all sounds amazing, why the thought of the "Water Lilies" alone are enough to impress me, so I tip my hat to you sir. As for myself, well let's just say it will be a struggle to keep the "Wandering Jew" alive until Christmas, the "Fern" will be a goner for sure. I'm shooting for 2 out of 3...WG and I are going to have a 'pot hanging party' for the survivors for the holidays. One string of lights for each pot that survives the summer. (ahem) that is pot as in "potted plant" just in case anyone was wondering.

Woooo! BVB! Thanks for the clarification. Ya know... I am quite straight laced and have never taken part in any even remotely questionable activities... and I certainly would not want to start now... ;)
