I'm thinking of writing a treatment for a gay version of "Sex and the City." Here's what I have so far, I'd love your ideas about it:

HUNTER- 27 years old, a New York gay everyman, model-gorgeous, into fashion and theatre, he works in a gay bookstore that is struggling to stay open. He is a well-known blogger (think someone like Andy Towle of Towleroad). He is the Carrie Bradshaw character. Hunter has lots of connections in the gay world of New York City and he leads his friends on adventures through this world. He lives in an apartment with his best girlfriend, SASHA, the series's female perspective. Hunter narrates the story.

CARRINGTON- 30 years old. Flamboyant, and fabulous, a makeup artist who works at Aphrodite (a Sephora-like store) and drag queen. He is Hunter's best friend out of the three friends - He's the Miranda Hobbes character. He is blunt, cynical, and very funny.

GABRIEL- 18 years old. Fresh off a farm in Kansas, Gabriel has moved to New York, leaving behind his religious conservative family. He comes to New York City to be a Broadway star (I know, how cliche). Fresh-faced, really cute, and the most innocent and youngest of the guys, who take him under their wing to show him Gay New York. He's the Charlotte.

HAWK- 42 years old, extremely sexy DILF, a retired porn star for Testosterone (think like a Colt or a Titan man), he is the most promiscuous of the four. His whole life revolves around having sex. He's the Samantha. He now works as a photographer.

The show will be just as much as fashion as it will be about the plot - with Hunter, Carrington, Gabriel, and Hawk being dressed in really cool clothes.

Supporting characters:

BOB and JACK- Elderly and HIV positive married couple, they own the gay bookstore Hunter works at, Over the Rainbow. JACK is one of the patients that HUNTER delivers meals to through Guardian Angels, a Meals on Wheels program (like Gods Love We Deliver.)

It's not very good I know ): but I sure would love to hear your thoughts on how to make it better . I'm always writing treatments and I can never develop them enough to make them work.... I've had this idea for a few years.

I saw a movie that had a similar premise

The whole idea of the Carrie character is that she's intelligent but average looking. So you probably don't want her equivalent to be gorgeous.

Right. He would just be average looking... and i can see the comparisons with Qaf. I didn't watch the show, I've only seen snippets of it, but I think maybe a gay SATC might be passe... maybe a gay Golden Girls?! Four old queens sitting around a kitchen table talking about sex and eating cheesecake? lol

The resemblance to Noah's Arc is dramatic. Noah the writer Rick the sleep around sexy man The professor whatever his name was Serious and conservative and then there was The one that volunteered at the HiV clinic. The only major difference to me was the ages and though you do not specify race, as described, I think these characters are probably white though Hawk seems the least racially stereotyped. I think the names give a very white man vibe. This is where i would start to change things. How about a bit of racial diversity.

Your ideas have promise, but need some more work.. I loved Queer As Folk, and felt that it was a well developed series, I just wish it had continues... OZ handled the gay aspects pretty well too, and some of the scenes were really groundbreaking at the time with full frontal shots, and some intense romantic scenes, as well as the brutality that is found in prisons. If you proceed, don't make it "campy" we've progressed a lot in the last couple of years, so the typical stereotypes don't work very well anymore. How about adding two "regular" guys who are married and are raising kids to the mix?

Queer as Folk is one of those series that is piled up in my media room to watch. Of course, there's about 200 complete TV series and 800 films I have yet to see ... I sure hope I live long enough. I've been looking for enough time to watch big chunks of Queer at a time and haven't had the time yet.
