SPECIAL EFFECTS: Very Good, but not perfect. The directors' decision to use stop-action and slow-motion during fight scenes makes it easy to see that the actors have been replaced by computer animation. The freeway chase scene is very well done, however, and for sfx freaks it alone will justify the price of a ticket.

PLOT: Exceedingly dull and uninvolving. It doesn't take long to reach the point at which one no longer knows or cares what is going to happen to Zion.

ACTING: Not the film's strong point. Fishburne sounds like he's reading instructions for programming a VCR or recording one of those tapes that gives foreign language lessons. The other principal cast members have such a limited range of expression that one gets the idea they have just come back from the dentist and are still waiting for the novocaine to wear off.

NUDITY: Minimal. If your main interest is in seeing Keanu's body, don't bother to go. There's a lot more skin in "It Runs in the Family."

Woodlawn's comments are pretty much right on the money. I've been a fan of the original Matrix since early on. In the original, the charachters actually performed their fight scenes in the flesh. Reloaded is all CGI and screens. The car chase was very well done. The acting was like taking a handful of Xanax. I thought there should have been an X Box controller attached to the screen so I could play along. It's pretty standard for a movie.

My partner kept saying "Now, I can't take this movie too seriously because every time I see Hugo Weaving <Smith> all I see is Priscilla Queen of the Desert. I can't work past it..Don't ask me to."

The Plot

If you are not a fan of the original Matrix and have not seen it over and over again and will not play the game when it comes out or seen the animated films that accompany it, the plot will not make a lot of sense. The film does require you to have seen the first movie, unlike X-2. The "R" rating is more likely what will keep it from getting a HUGE audience, as did the X-Men franchise or Spiderman, which included a clause in their contract that the films had to be made for PG-13.

I have to admit I was disappointed in several respect like John was, and I am not sure it was worth standing in two lines (to buy my ticket and to enter the theater), but I do intend to get stoned with a friend and see the first film and the IMAX version of this one again. This film is also essentially not three books made in sequence as the Lord of the Rings trilogy and films, but two movies: the second one was simply cut in half. That will be a big disappoint for first time or occassional fans.

If you like action films, you will enjoy this one. If you like the science fiction/philosophy aspect (with some action scenes) aspect of the first film, as I did, you may also come away feeling slighted until you see the third film together, in which case, wait till the DVD comes out and watch all three all at once.

By the way, I am no Keanu fan, either sexually or otherwise, but in one of his fight scenes (on the tables with the Asian man who protects the Oracle) is both just the two actors, no stunt men, very little computer enhancement, although of course, it was multiple takes. In another of his fight scenes, it is mostly him and the actors he is fighting, many of whom were recruited from Hong Kong films. This one does have CGI effects in it, which of course are obvious, simply because humans cannot do some of those things no matter how athletic or trained.

RE: The Plot

You stood in two lines for a movie?!!! Franco, you have far more patience than I. One line would be too much for me. Can always see any movie at a later date.

I went to see the Matrix tonight with three of my sons (gay boys I've adopted somewhat like the Twinkhos). I purchased the tickets online on Thursday and then walked right up to the Automated Ticket Kiosk and printed them out in 30 seconds. Granted, I did have to stand in line to get in, but buying the tickets online is great, especially since people still seem to shy away from the kiosk and stand in line at the box office. Try it sometime.

RE: The Plot

One of the advantages of the kiosk is that you can get the senior discount without suffering the audacity of the young ticket clerk suggesting it!

For those with a line phobia, I was able to walk in at 1:25 for the 1:20 showing and get an excellent seat. I think the force is with us now.

As for the sex scene during the rave party, I thought it was more pornagraphic than most adult films.

No pictures, Chuck, but here's the scoop:

Matt is 20, 6'2" 175 brown with beautiful hazel eyes, swimmer's build. Then there are the twins, Justin and Mike. Both are 5'9", 130 lbs, one is black the other white. They have been dating now for over a year.
