Feel free to list yours below. My number one choice would be ... Queenstown, New Zealand. The beauty of the scenery is simply S T U N N I N G !

The drive from Dunedin into Queenstown takes a few hours, but it's well worth it and you won't regret it, believe me. The scenery is unlike anything you've ever seen and vary from "WOW" to "Is that for real, dude?" then I forget to catch my breath and get tears in my eyes.

On second thought, I wouldn't simply visit, I would live there :-)

Doesn't it, though! Norwegian is such a smooth language, it just rolls off the tongue..LOL

Here's another place not to miss...Tulum ruins of Mexico. Most beautiful beach I've ever seen.

I didn't at first realize this thread is, places you have been and glad that you did before you die. Not that it matters. All good and interesting pix.

Best regards,

There is much to do before the man comes calling, like blasting the tunnel at Monte Carlo at red line in a V-12, or bumpin fenders with the boys at Nascar, or rounding Cape Horn, hard over, with the port rail buried deep, or falling in love, truly, deeply, forever. To celebrate a life completely and be thankful for all that I have been given. I think that it is important not to die with any regrets, that is a life well lived.

You are so right, BVB, but the older I get the more I fear that it's impossible not to have regrets - so many choices, one can't do everything. The task is to minimize the regrets.

Thanks, Steven - wonderful pictures. And Ace, well that's one helluva beach you've got there! Kevin's escort caption made me think (inexplicably?) about those old ads for a car with the word "fahrvergnuegen" - "pleasure in driving" or "driving pleasure" - yes indeed, time for a little driving, I think.

Thanks for noticing, KMEM. I was just checking to see if you're actually paying attention to my post or just skim through the pictures ;)

I have actually been to 2 of the places prominently mentioned in this thread and near the other. But, I cannot imagine any reader, lurker or poster herein who skims through the pictures or other posts. :)

Best regards,

KMEM

It's hard for me to say what's the most beautiful beach, Ace, however the most refined sand I've ever seen was Clearwater, West Florida Coast. White, powdery and smooth.

Ipanema ... eat my heart out! :p

Geirangerfjord, Norway...I'm fortunate to visit it every year in June. Put it on your bucket list :)

Thanks for the recommendation. It's already on my bucket list.

Having traveled so many miles to New Zealand, Norway seems now like my backyard.

Istanbul sounds unreal almost. I'd love to go there.

I romanticize North Africa a bit. I imagine myself as a runaway young man in Egypt; studying the Ancient Egyptians; hanging out in tombs covered in lapis lazuli. *gasp*

Alex from PDX (Hardjock8) used to write a blog about his almost yearly trips to fun and exotic locations around the world. I remember him describing snorkeling in the Red Sea and his trip through Turkey and then St. Petersberg. His descriptions always gave me hope to go there someday. He lived on a shoestring budget, travelling with a backpack and living in hostels, but he make every excursion sound so much fun I would have signed up to tag along with him in a minute. That, and the fact that he was incredible in bed, made me long for more than one night alone wth him zipped together in a sleeping bag.

Ahhh Alex. Anyone ever keep in touch with him? Last I heard was that he'd moved from PDX to somewhere in the NE to finish up his degree. If anyone has a way to contact him, I'd appreciate a PM.

since I read about it as a kid in a "best places in the world" list, the Maldives have always been on the top of my "to do" list.....the country was barely discovered back then, but is now very much an upscale destination....would like to camp out with somebody else on a small (just a few acres) uninhabited island for a few days and go snorkeling, swim, hang out, read, explore, cook out, sleep under the stars....really do the whole Robinson Crusoe thing.....have a cooler, umbrella, and a beach chair and not much else.....apparently, the govt forbids this on your own, but it can be arranged thru resorts or other tour operators there......
