Note that the word "cure" does not appear in the linked articled.

The number of cures remains at 0.

I was about to say the same thing—the title of this thread is a little misleading and will probably upset some people.

I knew something like this was in the works, and hopefully they'll knock the pill time down eventually to a once-a-week, then once-a-month regimen.

I actually think its dangerous to publicize this until its a "proven" cure. My fear is that it will fan the flames of false "security" and therefore promote high risk activities.

iresponsible title and post. it cures nothing. it's just another all in one pill, with a cost of over $20 k a year to maintain.

when speaking of a disease that has killed many of our friends and comrades, it's best that you think a little before you post.

Dear Jimboivyo,

While I understand why the title might have been "irresponsible", but can you tell me what's irresponsible about my post?

"Have you guys heard about this yet ? and a link to an article..." What is irresponsible about my post?

I am eager to hear about your response. I thought a little before posting, perhaps you should think a little before you call my post irresponsible (once again I understand why the title would have been that, but still can't comprehend what's irresponsible about my post). Please be kind and let me know.

PS: I read this article in a foreign language where it was explained as a "cure" and I just quickly googled this in English to find a similar article to post it here because I did not see a thread about it and figured it might be an important or interesting topic.

And while this topic is not nearly as vital as the "Dogs and cats need your clicks" thread (no offense to STJ - you are cool!), I figured some of you might want to read about it. The moderators are welcome to edit the title as they see fit. I have already requested that.

I wish you a better day jimbo!

There is under-reporting in that HuffPo article.

The doctors for the "Berlin Patient" freely admit that the HIV virus may well be hiding in muscle or organ tissue and may reappear at any time. (HuffPo links to the original report which *does* say this.)

Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure is to kill the patient and do a full tissue analysis. I doubt he'd agree to it. :p

The word "cure" needs to be used very, very carefully because no matter how many caveats or conditionals you apply, it's the only word anyone sees.

A similar phrase is "a cure for cancer." Very few cancers are "cured." The tumour may be removed, but it may have spread and be undetectable. Leukemia is almost never spoken of in terms of a "cure." It is almost uniformly called "in remission." I think deej's comment is well made: The Berlin Patient is in remission but may not have been cured.

30 years of practicing medicine, down the drain.
