I assume that you have not met the people but don't like their on screen persona. I have not attended any of these functions but I am pretty sure that most of the people involved are more evolved than their postings here would allow. Even 5668 of them. So you never know about the people, only the postings. Give it try, you might actually have fun.

I'd just like to say, for the record, that I have attended both of the DC luncheons. The guys that I have met there have all been gentlemen, very nice, very polite and a lot of fun. It's a good thing to meet with people with whom you share a particular interest. I certainly understand that this isn't for everyone for various reasons, but I have enjoyed myself and met some life-long friends at these functions. It works for me.

I have often found that people ARE actually a close reflection of their posting, using encounters I have had with members on other websites as the examples. Unless they were truly gifted at creating a faux person that they wanted to project, I found that they pretty much WERE who they posted to be....

You are probably right, JJ. Of the men I've met in person, I can't think of any time when any of them ever posted in a way that would lead anyone to think that they are not the gentlemen they seem to be. Yours truly included.
