Many of you have been hiring or escorting for at least 5 years, and quite a few of you have reached the 10 mile-marker.

 

What trends have you seen come and go in escorting during this time, and which of those were positive and negative, and why?

 

Do you think escorting has changed for the better, the worse, or not changed really much at all?

Started hiring 12 years ago. The bed post marks blurred together a long time ago. Many positives remain....a diverse assortment of men are available across the country, and reasonable price points are still to be had, contrary to the occasional outburst here about rates of a few providers. I continue to be surprised at the non-pros who amaze me at the quality of an appointment with them, and unfortunately, find that well-reviewed guys are becoming a bit more disappointing; they just can't always live up to the hype. Part of that is me, obviously. I've hired every type, seen it all, done most of it, and just don't have the unbridled excitement of a newbie any more.

 

The biggest change I have noticed is the decline in effective communication. Years ago, guys routinely impressed me with the quality and promptness of email and phone communication. Communications were crisp, clear, fun, edgy, without being graphic, kept me interested, even enticed, but now.....oh boy! I am rarely impressed with any companion's communication ability. The replies are often very delayed or never. Many responses are evasive, uninteresting, minimalistic, incoherent, and even illiterate. The big head gets me aroused just as much as the little one. And I really do not believe that today's escorts are more pressed with their time than the providers from 10 years ago. There are other points I could bring up, but the decline in communication saavy is the number one reason I am less enthused about hiring today.

I think the profession has become more clinical over the last 10 years and the number of scam artists has exploded in the last 5 years. Perhaps the recession has brought on the guys who really don't want to do it, hate it and are out to scam you. Not sure. All the photos, websites, etc. have made it more of a respectable but clinical profession than 10 years ago. I liked the guy who wants some cash on the side, knows he's hot, always horny and knows someone will pay bucks to get their hands on his bod. I miss the old days. A little sleazier but ,for me, more fun.

A shower in a nice shower stall can be hot. In a bathtub it can be a recipe for disaster. Not worth the potential risk in my eyes.

Yes a shower with one or two other guys can be a lot of fun, both before and after other activities. Unfortunately, the showers in many hotels these days seem to be on the small side, making it more challening for a two some and impossible for three. But fortunately a lot of the new suites in hotels these days have large walk in showers... I agree with some of the other posters here who lament the lack of good communication skills, actually it appears on both sides of the transactions... IMHO....

Well I"m hitting my 20th year hiring. Believe me I've had some great times. What I miss is the quality of escorts that are out there and the number of escorts available. My first experience was with a firm called Metro in DC; had a good slate

of men and offered a variety of services. Being more in a rural than urban setting the selection has always been limited but has significantly dropped off. The new ones starting out appear more of the hustler type, not that I don't mind a good hustler now and then, but not someone who really wants you to feel good.

I have lurked here for far more many years than I have been hiring, and my bed post notches are sure to be fewer in number than others. I share JJT's comments about communication and the stimulation of the bigger head. Have only experienced that with one escort, period. Everything else is abbreviated code popular among the younger set today. Another trend that still seems to dominate is hairlessness among guys. I just don't get it, don't like it, and think it looks unnatural. The majority of guys with ads seem to have joined the hairless club.

I used to shave my body hair because I was in the habit of shaving my legs for bike racing and it seemed odd to have hairless legs but hair on my chest. But these days I just let it all grow. Am lucky that my body hair seems to grow in good places and has never been excessively heavy and I really enjoy the natural look.

 

But one of these days I may shave again, the process can be a sensual treat and it would be nice to show off the tone and definition of my legs.

I have been hiring escorts for ten plus years. One major change I have noticed, over that period, is the great increase in the number of Hispanic guys escorting. It certainly seems to correspond with the great expansion of the Hispanic population in the U.S. I have a thing for dark skin so I love this trend. Because circumcision is generally not practiced in Hispanic culture I have also noticed an increasing number of uncut guys. This is not a trend I much like but one must change with the times and I am accustoming myself to playing with uncut cocks.

Very interesting post. Here's my viewpoint:

 

THE PAST:

I started hiring off and on for about 12 years and remember in the early days (late 1990s), copy ads were more prevalent in the gay newspapers. Some had pictures; many did not. The ads with the most enticing and alluring descriptors were what sold me. What i remember was the element of surprise and anticipation in meeting someone in my hotel room (not seeing their picture, only a brief phone call) and the exhilaration of opening the door and seeing someone that usually exceeded expectations. Some of my best encounters were with guys that never showed their pics and were based merely on ad copy and a brief phone conversation.

 

I also miss being able to cruise for hustlers in NYC/Philadelphia/Montreal streets with the potential for hooking up with hot guys in the late 1990s. Those days are gone now. I also recall going to an excellent boy brothel in Amsterdam in the late 1990s, which i think offered one of the most exciting experiences i've ever had.

 

THE PRESENT:

The trend to online marketing (i.e., rentboy, craigslist) and message forums such as this one, is a positive one in that usually what we see or hear about an escort might serve as a reliable indicator of the potential fun we might have.

 

A negative trend i see is that more and more guys like to communicate via texting. I don't find texting to be meaningful in establishing any rapport or providing an ability to properly describe what i'm looking for in an escort encounter. I'd much prefer a nice email or phone conversation than just texting.

 

THE FUTURE:

Not sure on this one. However, given the state of today's economy, would like to see escorts offer frequent client discounts or improved pricing:) I do alright for myself, but i can't seem to justify seeing someone for 300 or 350 an hour. Just too much for me. However, I'm sure in 10 years, there will be escorts that will charge 1000 per hour.

 

I also see a trend to more mature escorts (there are a lot of silver foxes out there!). As I age, I feel more comfortable with seeing more mature guys than the twinky ones (although there will be exceptions!) especially in social settings.

 

In the same vein, I also see an unmet need for gay escorts to service the retirement community. I'm not there yet but can imagine that sex drive does not dissipate with age. Regardless of past, present, or future, i think escorts will always be there to serve a primal, physical, and sometimes, emotional need.
