My domestic partner just passed his citizenship exam 2 days ago! He should be taking his oath next month, probably July 11th or 25th.

Congratulations to him. But I have to ask...do you really refer to him as your "domestic partner"?

Definitely something worthy of celebrating. Congratulations to you both. How will you celebrate?

 

For now, a gourmet meal. After the Oath Ceremony, probably a party.

Yes. We are not married, but have registered as DP's. What's wrong with that term?

That is wonderful news, Unicorn, and a real sign of the times. Congratulations. Big congratulations.

In California, Rick, domestic partner is the legal name used for the registered relationship with the state. No marriage here, something to do with Prop Hate.

So, you do hear that term here more than probably New York, although shortened to "partner" for most social occasions.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. (But actually, I just googled and it seems we also have domestic partnerships in NYS...I guess I just really never heard anyone say it before!)
