Hello everyone. Unfortunately I'm not completely sure this is the appropriate place to ask this but I really had no other resource to go to. If anyone could kindly point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it.

I would like to become a gay male escort but I'm not sure where to begin. It all seems rather daunting with all these different websites advertising different services so I am trying to find the right website to post an ad. I've landed on choosing Rentboy but there is still much I need to figure out like...

How my profile description should look

Tips for pictures

What you guys, as clients, like to see in a profile

etc.

I've read this neat blog which helped my understanding a bit but I'd like more information on how this all works. I'm also curious about terminology like what an "in call" and "out call" is and how I'd go about pricing. I'm a nice guy and I happen to enjoy sex with older men so I'm not looking to charge ridiculous amounts just enough to help with my college loans, which is why I am here. I appreciate any and all information you guys can give me, I apologize again if this doesn't belong here.

Well, Menalaos.. you might start by personally talking to a few of the very well reviewed escorts on this site near where you live. You might also want to hire someone so you have some first hand experience with what you are dealing with before you launch this new business of yours. I am not an escort, but very few guys in your position can make this work.

I'd highly recommend reading successful escort's profiles/ads online to get an idea of how they are worded and the vibe it gives off. There is quite a variety out there, many of the cocky, stuck-up ads don't get the best attention (at least from my readings on here).

Pictures should be updated, current, and show YOU rather than the guy you want to look like or the man in your fantasy. Make sure you've got pictures of all sorts of various backgrounds, settings, "looks" etc. Not just 8-10 different mirror cell-phone pics.

Be respectful to everyone, when you communicate, take time to write thorough responses describing what you expect of the client and what they can expect from you, so that there are no surprises. Even if someone is rude to you, it doesn't always give you the right to be rude back. There is alot of "BS" you will have to deal with from people that will call/contact you with no intentions of actually booking an appointment.

Welcome to the group. As a client, here are some of things that are important for me:

Posting on Reliable Sites: I'm not someone that picks their guys from the local gay newspaper / magazine. Typically, if someone is not reviewed on this site (or a similar site) I usually don't hire them. I often will use RentBoy to verify their stats or see additional / more explicit pictures. But I don't rely on or trust reviews on the ad sites.

Pictures: I love pictures that are recent and of good quality (not professional). I hate the grainy, low resolution ones and I'm not a big fan of the mirror shots. Have a close friend take the shots but don't go to the hassle and cost of professional photographers. I like open shirt photos and also appreciate full nude shots. A close up of the cock is a real plus. But, that doesn't mean it has to be a full hard-on shot. I'm also not a big fan of guys that shave their crotch / pubic hair. I want to hire a man and not someone that looks like a pre-pubesant boy.

Honest Profiles: Be very honest in your profile. If you'd prefer NOT to bottom, then tell me that up-front. Something like "Rimming Passive" is fine because it lets me know that I can do that to you but you don't necessarily want to perform that on me. Honesty about drug use and smoking are also hot buttons for me. I've turned away guys that said they were non-smokers but showed up smelling like they just had a smoke.

Also, don't feel like you have to be everything to everybody. I'm very skeptical of someone that lists their interest too broadly such as "mild to wild". I'm also turned off by someone that says they're into leather, fisting, or water sports. If you're willing to do that with a client that's fine. But, I think it has the potential to turn off some clients. Perhaps that "wild" side is something that should be discussed OUTSIDE of your ad.

Honest Stats: Not everyone is hung like a horse and not every client is looking for 8+ inches. I'm much more likely to select a guy and indicates he has 6 or 7 inches than someone that claims 8+ inches. So, don't feel like you have to inflate your size to attract more clients.

Honesty about your thickness is also important. If you're as thick as a soda can then tell me. But, if your thickness is "average" then be proud to say that.

I also like honesty in height / weight stats. I'm very tall and really like escorts on that are tall. But, I've also been very disappointed when someone indicated they were 5'-10" but were barely more than 5'-5". Understating your weight / body type is also a real problem for me. I've had great sessions with guys that are a little heavier (football player types) but are not toned gym rats. But, I'd turn you away at the door if you represented yourself to be in-shape but showed up with a beer belly.

Summary: In short, honesty is the best policy. I really like the suggestion that maybe you hire a guy that is well-reviewed on this site and see how they interact with you.

Best of luck. And, update your profile with a picture and location.

Onefinger beat me to the post!

As for yourself: (a) Be male; (b) be gay.

Photos: Face and body TOGETHER. Body and "junk" TOGETHER. We want to make sure it's all one person.

And for our help: Where ARE YOU? The Big Three sites are rentboy.com, rentmen.com, and men4rentnow.com

If you look over old posts, you can see that some cities rely on rentmen and some rely on rentboy. Men4rentnow is kinda second-tier for keeping too many expired ads up.

To get the idea: Look at one of your father's best friends, or (even better) look at one of the men in your grandfather's nursing home. Could you do it with them for money?

You might want to re-post this in "Ask an Escort". Most would say "the going rate" for pricing (ca. 150-200 per hour).

Welcome aboard! It's great fun!

But if you read the posts, you will also see that outside a handful of major cities, M4RN generates more business than RB or RM (despite it's faults!!)

be honest, don't promise the moon and the stars, start slow and easy, be friendly, energetic, positive, be ultra-safe, let a very trusted friend know where you are going to be, make yourself memorable, be very clean, be ready for flakes/no-shows/run-arounds, don't take it too seriously, quit when those bills are paid off and you get that steady job (if that's the goal)....

pretty sure some of the guys will offer you private advice, too....

I'd also recommend reading the biggest threads in the Ask an Escort section from the past few years. These are usually about hot button issues affecting many escorts, such as cancellations, whether to accept bookings from blocked calls, and many others. That's a great way to get advice from seasoned escorts for free--though some people's advice is clearly better than others. There are also books about escorting, like those written by Aaron Lawrence, but most of them are outdated.

If possible, try to find an established escort , probably someone in another city, who can serve as a mentor. When you're a newbie in any field, it helps to have someone you can call occasionally when you're faced with a tricky situation.
