Are we ,"prima donas," if we ask a client for 24 hours notice?

Since I started being reviewed on DADDYS and posting on this august forum my biz has increased alot. A typical day now has anywhere from 2-4 clients. As a result I very rarely can do spur of the moment or same day (no real notice) appointments. When folks call, text or email I try to be as accomodating as possible while being honest about my schedule. Now: let me tell you about something that happened to me last week. A potential new client who has been trying to book me for 18 months started emailing me for a date. I nicely emailed him back within 10 minutes. He emailed at 3 pm asking for a midnight call that night. I informed him that i was booked all night but could schedule him anytime tommorrow. "tommorrow ain't gonna work..." he said. ok, so tommorrow comes and this time he calls and it goes to voice mail. then he emails asking for, you guessed it, today (which had been tommorrow yesterday.) I nicely email him back and tell him that I am booked today but can see him tommorrow which was the truth. I inform him that had he booked yesterday for today which was tommorrow then I could have seen him. He then denied that he had said, "tommorrow ain't gonna work." I then sent him the transcript of the conversation to his phone. His response was to say, "Stop being a prima dona. I used to be in youur biz. I know u aint that busy. no way! Forget it. I can't give u 24 hrs notice and ANY ESCORT WHO ASKS FOR THAT MUCH NOTICE IS A PRIMA DONA! PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL ME AGAIN." and that was the end of the discussion. Now, the question here to fellow escorts and clients can jump in too: is he right? I will be the first to answer my own question. I have discovered over the years that when you catch a client in a lie they get belligerent and angry towards the provider. For example this nameless and locationless potential client in discussion above has always said my pics are amazing and he raved about how good my new viedeos on rentmen are enough so that he was willing to shell out 200 for one hour with me. THEN THOUGH when I would not jump through his hooops and CANCEL my advance appointment I had to come see him at midnight his attitude changed. "Well, your videos are all the same anyway!" I built my career on being available spur of the moment but lately with all the new websites more and more clients book in advance which fills up our schedules. I in no way was being a prima dona. I was just honestly telling him my schedule. http://www.rentmen.com/mikeyusatop or http://www.rentboy.com/mikey9nola1 24 hours notice please! Lol!

Mikey I am sure Notice is preferred by you and your peers, and you will accommodate a last minute appt if your schedule allows. I am also sure any decent and reasonable client also knows this. But of course there are always "exceptional" clients that are UNreasonable. One of the business pitfalls. As you have been in the business MANY years by your own admission, I am sure client DIVA behavior is nothing new to you, so I am not exactly sure why you always let these sorts of occurences "set you off"..? I know they can be annoying and frustrating, but if you are as "laid back" as you claim to be, just let it Roll, and bookmark the client... No need to get worked up over it. AND you really owe him no explanation. I am sure you wont suffer losing a client ?

while I wait for responses let me give another example. During my recent time in TAMPA I had listed Orlando as a travel city in my ads meaning I was able and willing to drive the hour and 20 minutes from tampa to orlando to visit clients at their home or hotel. Ad did not say I could in any way host there for an in call. My hosting hotel was in tampa and this was clear in the ad. The client inquired and in his inquiry via text and email he said how beautiful my new pics were (11/11/11 photo shoot.) He liked them so well that he was willing to shell out 200 an hour to see me. When I informed him that I could not host in orlando he got ANGRY at me and said my ad was misleading. He was married I HAD to host him. Tampa was too far to drive for him. He then said and I quote, "Well, u r just an OVER THE HILL HUSTLER ANYWAY!" I responded with a god bless you have a nice day. It does no good to argue with idiots. Daddy told me when I first joined that old queen can be mean. True. And sometimes if their criticism and attacks are logical they can even be helpful but in this case it is ridiculous. One minute I was hot enough to pay 200 and the next minute I am an over the hill hustler cause the man CANNOT READ A CLEAR AD??????

I am considering placing the phrase, "24 to 48 hr notice appreciated for appointment. thanks," but I do not want to be considered a prima dona for doing so. I mean I have been talking about this with a few guys and one client told me, "Hell, I give my hairdresser 2 weeks notice for a fucking haircut.at least I could give my rentboy 24 hrs." We had a good laugh about that one. Seriously though we give an advance notice for a golf tee time or to a restauant for reservations. Again, I do not want to be known as a prima dona but is Emeril Lagasse a prima dona if you need to book your meal at one of his nola restaurants 3 days or even 3 weeks in advance? seriously?

What about the September through July forum? :) As I am sure you know there are always "better" ways to handle an unreasonable client; however, sometimes we discover them before the "incident" and sometimes after. :) In other words it seldom does any good to point out the fact that they are wrong, just go on with a neutral reply. Escorts and clients are human last time I checked and both will make mistakes. How those are dealt with is paramount.

All "good" escorts are divas. :) :)

Best regards,

KMEM

twice recently a client has double booked with me and another guy I know AT THE SAME TIME. I was on the phone with my friend and he said he had to go that he had a client in 10 minutes from Brandon (outside of tampa) . I said that is interesting because I too have a client on the way from Brandon. Interesting.? coincidence? I was curious so I said without revealing any real info on the client what is his first name? He told me and I nearly fainted. It was one of my best local regulars. Now, had he booked my friend then me an hour later or vise versa that would be unusual but no problem but at the same time and we live close??? So we anxiously waited to see whose place he would show up at and what he would tell the other guy as an excuse. Turns out he had never seen my friend before so he was a new client. he was late for our date and told me he was stuck in traffic. He show up at my friends place 15 minutes late cause he could not find it. He lies to me and says he cannot get to me cause of traffic and needs to reschedule. Turns out I was his back up plan if he did not like his new guy. So I call him on it and he is caught red-handed in a lie with his dick in the cookie jar so to speak. I walked over to my friends place and greeted the client as he left and headed back to his car. "thought u were stuck in traffic, " i said to him. I was nice and told him I did not care if he saw other escort that is his right but to double book, then cancel with a lie??? I refused to see him again despite his numerous apologies. I do not need or want such bullshit. Is this developing an attitude? I do not think so. I think it is standing up for yourself while remaining nice and professional. ps ...he is still my friends client and is a HELL of a nice guy. He says he snapped and had a bad day. shit happens I guess.........

Mikey,

I think you're within your rights to ask for 24-hour notice, and the client in question was a jerk, but I also think the idea of having an 'industry standard' of 24-hrs notice is unrealistic. Not everyone's circumstances are the same. I have met escorts who would ONLY take same day bookings.

As for the 'travel city' thing - did you actually SAY 'outcalls only'? I don't know the wording of your ad at the time, but your current RB ad says you can travel to Naples tonight, but it nothing in it says 'outcalls only'. An experienced client might guess that to be the case, but not everyone. But -and I thin k this was your real point - the client's response was inappropriate.

yes. at the time all the ads said, "Outcalls in orlando only..thanks," it also said, "hosting at my hotel in Tampa". I agree with you seeker. I built my biz on same day. But thing are changing for me. The flip side is all the cancellations of the advance booking talked about several weeks ago so there is a case for same day. MOST, not all but most, GOOD clients will give notice. I gladly and willingly and enthusiasticly accept calls with 30 minutes notice IF I am free and HORNY and SHOWERED and SHAVED...not a problem....but those occasions are becoming very rare.

it did not bother me jj at all. point of thread is that should we set an industry standard of 24 hr notice? then there would be no questions. I was just trying to be nice to the client.

I really dont think you are in a position to Crusade an "industry standard" but I do think you can train your own clients with policies you want them to abide by.

"Outcalls in Orlando only ", out of context, means "Orlando is the only place I do outcalls."

I think the client went overboard, but your wording wasn't entirely clear. It would be better to spell everything out - "I can host at my hotel in Tampa, or I can go to your place in Orlando. I can also go to your place in Tampa if you prefer."

It would have taken a few more seconds to type that in, but in the long run you would have saved time for both your client and yourself.

Forcing clients to book 24-48 hours in advance will ensure your cancellations skyrocket. There is a large client base out there that can only get away (be it from work, family, or a million other things) sometimes at the spur of the moment. If you make them book you in advance, when they can't get away, they will be calling you to cancel on the day of the appointment- if they call at all. There is another group that only hire when they are 'horny' and many can't predict days in advance at what time they are going to be horny. I personally, book most of my appointments well in advance. I would feel weird, however, if I tried to book a 1 hour appointment, a few days to weeks in advance. Most escorts would think I was nutz!

You do have every right to set that as your own standard for hiring you. Be aware some escorts (see the Vegas thread) are demanding same day appointments only with no advance notice acceptable.

It's difficult for me as a client to comment on this, because I just don't operate like that as a client. I rarely if ever ask for same day appointments unless of course it is a massage. Most of the masseurs in LA that I deal with are usually very accommodating for last minute appointments. I have only run into one that was VERY rude about me trying to schedule something in advance, he required same day appointments only.

Escorts I feel need notice, that's just me, I wouldn't expect an escort just to stop everything and get ready for a session on the spur of the moment. Once and awhile when traveling, I might call early in the A.M. and ask for something that evening, but if I don't get a response I certainly would not blame the escort. I probably am a little more easy going than most guys. If it happens fine, if not, there is always plenty of things to do to keep me entertained, even in a strange city. I am planning a trip out of town very soon, and I have not booked anything, nor am I interested really in doing so. I just want to wait till I get there and see what kind of mood I am in and what I feel like doing. Again, once there, if something works out, great...if not, so be it. It is not the end of the world. I will have fun regardless of the situation.

Doesn't spontaneity enter into the deal sometimes for anyone but me? Because of my schedule, sometimes I just find myself with a few hours that would be fun to fill in bed with a hot guy. If I have to plan a week in advance - well, so much for idea of "being in the mood" or "spontaneous." But I certainly wouldn't get nasty with a guy who turned me down or couldn't schedule me. There are other options.

I agree with "spontaneity" Phil, but you have to be prepared that the escort will either ACCEPT or turn you down on such short notice. Afterall, they are HARD working boys..

I don't that should be an industry standard. There have been times where had I had a mandatory 24 hour notice, a client would not have contacted me, and thus would have lost the gig for that day.

Horny doesn't always wait. And horny does not guarantee to be there 24 hours from now, especially when dealing with people who's schedules and sexual desires fluctuate. However, I have listed on ads that if people see I'm visiting their location, don't wait til I get there to call me...but rather email or at least give me some idea what we can work out.

I do like that guys give themselves a time window, as mentioned; if they call less than 24 hours. If someone calls Jack at 1:37 pm expecting to meet downtown at 2 pm but client's best friend Lula is coming over at 3:00 pm...that just puts unnecessary stress on the person having to be to the appointment. Most likely, Jack is not going to arrive in that short of time in most cases. Jack may not live in gay ghetto, and needs to stop what he's doing, freshen up, tune his mind to sex...and then proceed.

Mikey -- I certainly think it is reasonable to suggest advance booking, be it 24 hours or weeks ahead for a regular. I don't think I've ever booked with less a few weeks notice. But that's just me, since there is no local talent, at all.

I think it is perfectly reasonable to say "advanced booking preferred but short-notice calls may be available." I'm sorry, but guys who book you ahead of time, especially if they are regulars or guys you know will be there, should get preferential booking. For guys like me, it's the only "perk" I would accept.

I don't know how old you are, Phil, but when you reach my age (almost 66), things are never spontaneous--unless, of course, I've "held off" way too long!

The potential client has not really been "trying" to book you for 18 months, just screwing around and wasting your time. If he was really interested, he would have made it happen by now. If I tried repeatedly to work out a meeting with an escort to no avail, I would give up on the escort long before that length of time passed. If I was an escort, I would have blocked/ignored this guy long ago. He's a screwball and a time-waster.

to answer Zephyr on the 18 month aspect. I used to travel to where I now live. He contacted me on two of my tours here before I moved here. Both contacts were last minute and I was booked and missed him. I moved here full time in July and he immediately contacted me at 9pm asking for a 10 pm appt the same night. I was booked. Did not hear from him till the incidents described above in the o.p. Whole scenario covered 18 months, yes, but a total of 5 attemps to book me. I am sure it gets frustrating so guys just give up. The simple answer is to give 24 hrs notice. solves all the problems. As I have said, last minute has always been my calling card. They are HORNY (which you cant control) They do not cancel (a good thing) and they are motivated. If I could do more of these kind I would and I am NOT advocated a mandatory 24 or 48 hr. notice BUT on a practical level give how many advance appointments we have on the books the WINDOW for last minute appointments is shrinking. I now have a daily list of guys to call if I get a cancellation . also: as I have posted previously a LARGE percentage of my clients are married and closeted so advance notice is an issue. These are typicaly guys who need a morning or afternoon in call. Lately though I have noticed that even alot of these guys are beginning to work with me and to give me notice- kind of like giving notice to the hair stylist or getting reservations at a fine restaurant. The business is developing a bit more RESPECTABILITY (don't laugh-no jokes!) but it is true. With this respectability comes all the good and bad of every other business . We are in RETAIL and a certain percentage of shoppers are just looking and some are buyers. 2 kinds of buyers 1. spur of the moment on a whim 2. tedious advance planning and preperation. I get guys who book 3 months in advance and re-confirm 5 times. I also get guys here from Austria who call from the Ritz 40 minutes away and want me there in 10 minutes. I kid you not. I try my best to accomodate them all.
