Since Season 5 is about to start, I thought I'd start a thread for those who love this show. (This is literally the only TV I've watched since high school outside of the occasional History Channel doc and a few episodes of the wire.)

Any predictions for the season? Will Don marry his fiancee? What will happen with Betty's marriage? And will Sal (Brian Batt) ever come back?

Which season did you watch? Some seasons are better than others, and the whole thing is hard to understand without the basic background on Don especially his experience in Korea.

I love the show, though it took some time for me to get into it. Then I got REALLY into it. When I saw the first episode I thought it was interesting but I didn't keep watching it. Then I kept hearing about it and how much people liked it, so I re-watched the first episode and appreciated it more. Pretty soon I was hooked. But you're right, some seasons have been better than others, but overall really good.

So for next season... I can barely remember last season. I'll need to re-watch the last episode from last season.

I never really understood the allure of the show however about a year ago I got sucked into the Mad Men vortex and watch it. Predictions for the season:

Don's past will catch up with him again (thanks to that clearance application that Pete supposedly thought he stopped but not quick enough)

Sal won't come back to the agency but he will be running his own agency that will start taking away some of Don's clients. Don will let it go on until one day he has enough and goes over to Sal's agency..has a few drinks..then punches Sal out

Don will ask to marry his current fiancee however he will end up leaving her at the altar when he has a life-changing experience and sets his sights on Betty once again

Good call on Don's past catching up with him. That security clearance is a classic Chekov's gun.

As far as Sal, I could more easily see Don threatening to out him. Weiner said Sal wouldn't be back but who knows..

I think you're right about Don leaving Megan at the altar, but a lot of fans are tired of Betty due to Jones's wooden acting. Also, that would leave Betty free to cheat on her current politico husband with someone interesting.

Also, look forward to hearing what Nate thinks of this season..

Predictions for the season:

A hunky young new employee, KC, a novice bodybuilder joins the firm. While working last one night, Don notices KC working out shirtless in his office. Odd feelings start to stir in Don and he begins a secret affair with KC.

Thoughts on the first episode in season 5?I admit that I got a little tired of it on Sunday night and turned it off. I watched it via iTunes later.

Some highlights

-Roger accidentally integrates Sterling Cooper in an attempt to get back at Y&R.

-Harry, who was shocked when that young art guy Kurt announced he was a homosexual in season 2, now casually says of the party's MC "He's SO queer."

-Don gets upset at Megan, though it's unclear whether it was "Zou Bisou Bisou" that embarrassed him or the party as a whole. They then have makeup sex.

-The white rug is some kind of metaphor--for Megan? Will she be gone soon?

I just watched the season premiere a week late. Thank goodness for On Demand!

It looks like they may be focusing on changes in the social landscape (it's the late 60s now), and whether Don and the rest of the old guard can adjust or not. It looks like the world is changing around them, and they're standing there like deer in the headlights. We've known Don to be cool and dashing, but he's old-school and may have a hard time adapting to something new. I think it could be interesting if that's the route they go.

I'm sure whatever they throw at D.D. he will handle it! The question is how many interesting storylines are left in the late 60's

Because the 70's nobody is gonna find all that interesting week after week...

I am sure that whatever comes along in the series, Don will look at the person, ooze some seductive style and say "What" as detailed in this video

For those who are serious Mad Men junkies, there was an interview with Matthew Weiner on NPR's "Fresh Air" last week:

http://www.npr.org/2012/03/26/149161109/mad-men-creator-on-whats-next-for-don-draper

A couple of warnings, though:

1. The interview is 45 minutes long

2. I love the interviewer, Terry Gross, but if you are not familiar with her you may find her rather earnest in that uniquely NPR kind of way. But it's a good interview.
