IMHO, anyone that claims to be "ex-gay" is lying to make money or has mastered self-denial to the extreme. If you choose not to practice a gay lifestyle, that's one thing, but claiming you're no longer gay is bullshit.

Exodus has recently undergone an overhaul. A while back, they realized that the clinical evidence was overwhelmingly against them, so they admitted that their clients won't be "completely free" of SSA (same sex attraction). Now they've re-branded themselves around the broad concept of "change" or similar, broad meaningless terms.

bcohen, I'm not sure what they mean by change. I assume it's meant to be a Rorschach inkblot which allows each group to see Exodus as they want to see it.

 

Their apology and re-branding are apparently a reaction to the mess they made with their conference in Uganda, which encouraged that country to institute harsher penalties (including death) for men caught having homosexual sex.

Haven't been a lurker for quite some time. But, I've always been very open about going thru the conversion therapy used by the Mormon Church. However, I drew the line when they wanted to do electroshock therapy on me.

 

Have quite a few friends who have gone through the Evergreen http://evergreeninternational.org/ program. Can honestly say that I've never met anyone who hasn't gone back to their gay roots.

 

I don't understand the need for change. Acceptance has worked well for me and I truly love my gay life. It is so much better than when I was trying to change.

I've known one person who decided they were more attracted to women than men and started dating (and eventually married) a woman. But they decided it on their own—some closet case at a church didn't mandate it for them.

 

And I've had so many clients who were involved in the church in one way or another—from pastors to someone with a tv show to the child of a rather well-known entertainer who is extremely homophobic.

Ex-gay my ass. I'm a closeted married guy and have yet to completely perfect my gay-dar. Yet, even I can clearly see he's "family".
