Wow... thanks for posting. I guess I need to follow Tom on one of his adventures...and head to FTL and MIA for a long weekend.

Just got in from a short visit to Ft. Lauderdale. Didn't have time to check the Miami clubs out this time. For what should be high season, it was a little disappointing.

 

I don't have a terribly long detailed review to share... I am horrible with names. There were only a few standouts anyway.

Johnny's

No big new stars on the roster. Typical mix of races. The body types ranged from anorexic to thin. But for those of us who like 'em that way, that's why you go to Johnny's in the first place. Turned out to be a frustrating few nights. The better looking dancers all just did their cluster formation near the drag queen near the stage, inhaling cigarettes at record pace and cuddling with each other instead of engaging customers. Only dancer whose personality stood out was "Cowboy" a friendly, quirky looking guy with a nice toned bod. He sports a Chicago Bears hat. He's not a gym rat, but spends just enough time to make a difference. Over the visit (2 nights) there were 2 dancers I would have done a private dance with had they approached. One just never took my smiles as a hint that he should initiate conversation. The other, a kind of cute short young blond kid, camped out at the stage hangout I mentioned most of the night. Finally night 2, as closing time approached, I went up to him. After a few minutes of uninspiring conversation, I was ready to just get things going. But first he quoted his rate. $40 PER SONG. lol I laughed. I guess he probably thought I was drunk or desperate. I told him really nicely that I've always paid about $20 per song and was pretty sure that's the going rate. He apparently thought I was negotiating and offered me $30. I just chuckled, smiled, gave him a hug... and excused myself. Shocked, he started coming with me saying $20 a song is ok. I politely declined.... rolling my eyes once I turned away from him. The kid was a 7 at best... and the whole experience just sum'd up the lackluster weekend at Johnnys. As always, the bartenders were the most personable ones in the place.

Boardwalk

My taste in dancers usually is more of the Johnny's type. So Boardwalk usually is just my pre-game spot. I like the 2 for 1 drinks til 9. The bald bartender is cool. But every other visit, there just usually seems to be a standout at Boardwalk. One of those guys who just drops your jaw. Sergei was one of the first of these I recall from my first visits a year or two ago. A blond guy with the perfect toned but not overly buff bod. Then last year there was one who my friend and I usually called Jesse McCartney - a total facial resemblance and swagger that drove us crazy. Well this trip, the star of the show was a guy named ironically, Jake. Simply stunning. I thought he would be from Europe - he had that look, light exotic eyes, blond hair, toned bod. He looked like a Bel Ami natural - I was shocked when I heard him and realized he's an All American guy. If you get to go to FTL, watch for him... you won't miss him. I can't imagine he'll be doing this long. Seems these jaw-dropper types don't stick around long. Another sweet guy was a tall, dark spiky haired twink dancer named Chris. Great personality. Smelled amazing. Nice smile. The body was more of a Johnny's type, but he held his own. Also was glad to see the Russian dancer Vladimir (now known as "Joe") - abs to die for. Really playful. Great attitude.

 

The only downside of Boardwalk was an incredibly annoying MC who wouldn't shut up for more than 30 seconds. He thought he was hiliarious.... laughing at his own jokes, swallowing the microphone as he talked to be louder since most people were trying to tune him out. He's one of those guys you can tell was really hot when he was younger and everyone probably laughed at anything he ever said. Well, it's 2011 now and MC Annoying is in his 40s and almost drove us out of the place he was so irritating. I was never so happy to see a draq queen with a microphone than when one arrived at 9pm to relieve him of his duties.

Thanks for the post Jake. Sorry your visit wasn't more fruitful. The whole cigarette thing in the clubs in Florida makes me crazy, but we put up with it cause of the nice weather in the winter!!. You mentioned high season in Florida. I don't think it is high season yet. That really doesn't commence until right around Christmas and New Years. Typically the first two weeks in December are actually quite slow in South Florida as far as tourists are concerned. I visited Twist in Miami around this time last year and it was absolutely dead. January through Easter is when Florida is hopping.

 

Anyway, I just arrived Miami tonight. Will spend two days on the mainland as I have a couple of appointments.....then off to Miami Beach for three nights. I will get to Twist and hopefully the new Swinging Richards. I will issue a report at the end and then everyone can compare and contrast your Ft Lauderdale report with my Miami report. It's perfect!!

Thanks for the report. I was there last week, but didn't really have anything new to say. Had a great experience with Cowboy and with Keanu my first night there. All the dancers were on their game, circulating and interacting with customers. More of a mix of body types that night. The next two nights were as you described: dancers hanging around the MC smoking.

 

If you like the look of a dancer, don't wait to approach him -- just go over and get him early in the evening. There's nothing to lose, and sometimes they're just a little shy about approaching customers.

Jake - I completely agree that the majority of the guys at Johnny's care more about smoking/dancing than actuallying talking to customers. I noticed Cowboy too when visitng Thanksgiving weekend. He was busy chatting with a customer for more than a hour. When it seemed he wouldnt let go, I just left.

 

I hope to visit Boardwalk, Johnny's and SR when I head to Miami for the holidays later this month. Thanks again for posting!

Glad you guys enjoyed the report... almost didn't want to post it since it was so negative.

 

To respond to a couple comments, I'm not at all shy - I just am not the type to chase a dancer down. I like to see a little bit of a work ethic on their part. I like to be flirted with and seduced. When a dancer walks by I dig, I'll shoot him a smile and head nod or tip him while he's dancing. But this blond kid just camped out in the dancer corner most of the time - it annoyed me. It was against my M.O. to approach him but I was late and a little horned up and just wanted to play. :-)

 

As for high season, guess it makes sense that things would pick up after the holidays.

 

By the way, some of the dancers suggested Torpedoes when Johnny's was closing... saying they have dancers and private rooms? I don't think I've seen anyone talk about this place... anyone?

Jake -- I could have written those words; it's exactly the way I feel and how I act when I'm dealing with more mature dancers (say, over the age of 21). But I learned a while ago at Taboo that 18/19-year olds have a different culture and set of social skills and sometimes need to be taken by the hair and dragged away from their friends. I've watched one of my most experienced strip-club-devotee friends operate in just that way at Johnny's and, believe me, he gets good results, including quite a few boys ready and eager to come home with him once he makes the contact.

 

By the way, some of the dancers suggested Torpedoes when Johnny's was closing... saying they have dancers and private rooms? I don't think I've seen anyone talk about this place... anyone?

I'm told that Torpedoes gets going after 2 am once all the other clubs close; I haven't been there in years. When they first opened I had a couple of hot experiences in those closed booths, but nowadays it's way past my bedtime.

All dancers were either muscular or reasonably well built. No-one I would describe as a twink. Also, no really big guys (Diego from Uruguay was the biggest guy there). Both nights were quite busy with customers.... which is saying something considering it was mid-week.

 

A few of the dancers that used to dance at Twist have moved to Swinging Richards I have been told. I had intended on going to Swinging Richards on Thursday after dinner with a friend. However, after dinner I was pooped out so I never made it to SR's. Shame. I will have to do that the next time.

Hi Brett. The Russian guy with the long hair was not there. Neither was Marcelo from Mexico. One big guy I forgot to mention was the big muscled Peruvian guy. I don't remember his name...but he is big. To me, when I speak with him he comes off as being somewhat effeminate.....which really kills the whole attraction for me. No doubt, however, that he is good looking and big.

I'm pretty sure that the Peruvian guy who you saw was Danny - at least, it sounds like him. I saw Danny dance at Boardwalk and Twist when I was in Miami over Labor Day. I agree he is big and good looking. Glad you were able to spend some time with Diego ...he's very hot.

I was in FLL this month and stopped by Boardwalk and surprisingly had a great time. The Czech bartender is awesome. Some nights he works outside at the restaurant and some nights he works inside. His body is amazing. His head is shaved so I am thinking that is the same bartender that Jake referred to as being bald. Great guy with great abs. He and Felipe are my two favorite bartenders.

 

I also met the new dancer named Jake and I agree... simply perfection. He is from Detroit and is just as the poster "Jake" described. I spent alot of time with him and also with a couple of Brazilians and other latinos. (my weakness) I brought a different dancer back to my hotel each night and I had lots of fun. I agree that Jake won't be around long... so enjoy him while you can.

 

I enjoyed myself so much I never did make it to Johnny's or Swinging Richards. I was using cabs from my hotel so Swinging Richards was a little out of my way.

 

The other poster is right, the Sergey who used to dance at Boardwalk dances at Adonis in NYC and is still the same perfect guy. Dances under the name of "Grey". Highly recommended to make the trip to see him and the other guys that dance there.

Bozo just returned from spending the MLK weekend in South Florida. I checked out Boardwalk, Johnny's (Ft.L) & Swinging Richards.

 

Boardwalk: Didn't seem as vibrant as in the past. This could be due to the recent deaths of 2 of its beloved staff members - Annie, the crotchety cashier & Michael, the former dance manager. In addition, everyone's favorite tranny, Auntie Mame, is not doing well. Also, hot bartenders Danny and Carlos have moved on. Boardwalk is still the best of the Lauderdale/Wilton Manors strip joints, boasting a wide variety of backgrounds and body types. A few new hot "Anglo" dancers began dancing this weekend including Lucas, Carl, Matthew, and blonde porn star Gavin Waters. Boardwalk is starting to resemble Campus in Montreal, having more than its share of over-the-hill dancers, long past their prime. How many 40 and 45-year old dancers are too many? Discuss that amongst yourselves...

Considering it was a holiday weekend in January, the crowd was disappointing. I suspect that many Boardwalk customers followed some of the Boardwalk dancers to the recently opened Swinging Richards a few miles south in Aventura.....

 

Swinging Richards: Very elegant new club located in upscale Biscayne Blvd. The club is spacious and modern, and features the hottest boys south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Bozo went there on Friday night, and the club was standing room only by 10:00 PM. It seems to draw a young crowd that adds a lot of enthusiasm and energy. Like its sister club in Atlanta, Swinging Richards draws a significant amount of female patrons. The club also has an on-site kitchen with a menu that includes a lot of yummy healthy choice options. On-site parking is three bucks (more if you use valet service). The lap dance area is one communal room with no privacy. If you want private time with your favorite dancer, they have about 6 VIP rooms which will set you back $140 (+ tip) for 15 minutes.

 

Johnny's: If there were any dancers of quality there earlier in the season, they're gone now. Unfortunately, the strippers working this past weekend were the usual group of unattractive, chain-smoking, effeminate twinks whose aggregate amount of testosterone couldn't fill a thimble. Combine that with the near-toxic level of smoke and the deafening music, it added up to a very unpleasant and unhealthy 30 or so minutes. It's kind of sad that Johnny's has degenerated so much, because its lap dance rooms provide intimacy that no other south Florida strip club can match. It's a shame that Bozo couldn't find anyone worth bringing back there....

Thanks for the informative report. I just arrived in Florida tonight so your information is very helpful to me. I will be more South Beach focused......so I don't think I'll make it to Ft. Lauderdale. However, I do plan to get to Twist and probably Swinging Richards. One question regarding Richards: Since they have an on-site kitchen with food, is smoking prohibited in the club? My understanding of the Florida smoking rules is that smoking is prohibited if the locale serves food in the same area as the bar. My only gripe with the Florida clubs is the smoking. Thanks again!!

Unfortunately, smoking is permitted at Swinging Richards . Although as the percentage of food sales increases, I am hopeful that smoking will be banned from the club. Let's cross our fingers.

If you decide to go to Johnny's, make sure to bring an oxygen tank with you. The amount of cigarette smoke there is truly sickening.

bigvalboy, I was told by 2 different dancers that the VIP room was $140 ($100 to the dancer and $40 to "the house") for 15 minutes. Although I'm sure you can rent the room for 30 minutes too. Since it is private, you can negotiate with the dancer exactly what type of action you are looking for. And I agree that the quality of the dancers at SR's far exceeds both Boardwalk and Johnny's. It's not even close.

 

I should have mentioned in my earlier post that Swinging Richards, unlike the Lauderdale/Wilton Manors clubs, allows total nudity. So if you are one of those rare homosexuals that enjoys looking at penises and bare asses, you should definitely make the trip to Swinging Richards.

 

and bigvalboy, next time you're at Swinging Richards and you see Bozo and his posse sitting at a table, please come by and say hello. Don't be a stranger. Bozo doesn't bite.
