I'm headed to Singapore soon and I was looking for recommendations for hotels, good restaurants and places that I must see.

Thank you.

It's been a long time since I was in Singapore and no doubt, many things have changed except the weather which is generally hot all year long.

When I was last in Singapore, I had a wonderful time and stayed here - http://www.raffles.com/EN_RA/Property/RHS/

At the time I was in Singapore, Raffles was the "in" hotel. There is a great history with the hotel and it is in the center of interesting things to see and do. Read the story that appears in the above site.

I have heard from friends who say that Raffles has already had its day and that other hotels are nicer. I cannot offer any information about other hotels.

Have a good trip.

My partner worked in Singapore in the 90s, and the only hotel I stayed in then was the Oriental, which was very pleasant, though characterless, like much else in the city-state. It is a very conservative, regimented place, and predominantly a Chinese city, despite its multi-cultural reputation. There isn't a lot to do for recreation. It is hot and humid all year round, and public spaces tend to be overly air-conditioned, so one constantly encounters people with headcolds. It is not gay-friendly.

When you are in Kansas City, make sure to have some Gates Barbeque; take in the Nelson Art Gallery as well as the Country Club Plaza. While in the Plaza, go to Hall's,

the venue which was established by Joyce Hall of the Hallmark Card family.

Do enjoy this heart of the Midwest of this country, the place of my birth and upbringing! [i'll send a separate post regarding Singapore!]

Steven, if you like eating, then you'll enjoy the smells and tastes of singapore. Anthony Bourdain recently did a great episode (and it's quite current) on singapore. Check it out: http://www.travelchannel.com/tv-shows/the-layover/episodes/singapore-4. Happy travels :)

Steven

You might consider staying the Marina Bay Hotel. It's very new ( opened last year) and has an amazing infinity swimming pool on the top deck ( about100 floors up). Like all modern hotels of it's type, it's big and anonymous but has a great French restaurant in the mall underneath
