This is a rookie question...

I'm seeing one of my regulars this weekend, and in exchange for some of our time together he's giving me a collection of legit law enforcement uniforms. My question is, can I pack these in my checked luggage, should I put them in carry-on, or should I ship them home separately in the mail or FedEx? I'm not sure what the laws are with being in possession of a law enforcement uniform.

TSA pretty much always leaves one of their calling cards inside my checked luggage so I can anticipate they'll be looking through the luggage this time too. Or is it no big deal and I can just pack them along with my other clothes?

Possession is legal. It's just clothing.

If you start dressing as a cop and making traffic stops you'll have issues, but there's no law against carrying costumes. It's just another form of drag.

My understanding is exactly the same as Deej's - as clothing you can pack them in your checked or carryon luggage. Now wearing them and impersonating an officer etc is another whole issue. I suspect that the possession or wearing of an official badge would be something that you should avoid. So will you be wearing one of these uniforms to the Chicago dinner?

That is correct its the impersonation that is illegal. Now if you would like to try impersonations in the privacy of my hotel room in Chicago. Ummm I'd be more than happy to be frisked and strip searched. Now how often does a card carrying ACLU member offer that

Thanks guys. I was vaguely familiar with the part about not impersonating an officer, but was not sure where the boundary might be with being in possession of his clothes. Sounds like it should not be a problem packing them in the luggage... and if that's the consensus, bringing them to Chicago ;-)

And Mr. Tomcat, Officer Bruno would get a thrill carrying out a strip search of a card carrying ACLU member. But I hear he carries a flogger rather than a nightstick....

Tomcat, be careful what you wish for ... next step is cavity search. :)

And that's a problem how? :)

Nate can search my cavity any time he wants. The man is just hot, what can I say?

Hey, I forgot that your middle name is Tomcat ... :p

Agreed, Nate is hot. Would love to see him in those uniforms.

Fortunately the uniforms are short sleeved so cavity searches will not be a problem, should that be required (or anyone be so inclined). Serve and protect, you know.

Got the uniforms home no problem. TSA does not even appear to have been interested in the luggage, so in retrospect nothing to worry about. LAPD uniform fits perfectly, but I need to get a (phony) badge since it's rather plain otherwise. CHP uniform has cool patches so is ready to go with just some alterations to the trousers. Yeah, OK I'll admit I've got a uniform fetish!

2nd that, especially with the "badge."
