The guest list for the royal wedding next Friday has been released. British actor Rowan Atkinson has been invited. It brought back laughing memories of the marriage at which he officiated in "Four Weddings and a Funeral." Let us hope that the Archbishop of Canterbury does not stumble quite so much next Friday.

Unfortunately, it was confirmed that neither Tony Blair nor Gordon Brown had been invited to Friday’s ceremony.

Neither has FLOTUS Michelle Obama. Public reason is that HRH Prince William is not first in line heir and therefore not really a "state occasion". However, that will teach Michelle not to try to cop a feel of the Queen's back when she visited Buckingham Palace last time with the Prez.

I forget where I read it, but my impression was that a distinction was being made between heads of state who are monarchs and those who are elected. The former are apparently included, the latter not. I heartily agree with Poolboy: the Queen has been most gracious to Michelle considering M's appalling breach of protocol. And that from a woman married to a President who bows before Saudi and Japanese monarchs in full view of the press.

Emendation: The distinction seems not to be made against elected heads of government because they are elected, but because they are not part of the Commonwealth, all of whose heads of government are elected, at least in the formal sense:

I am surprised at the exclusion of Labour former prime ministers. I had thought that the Royal Family rather favoured Labour.
