I am planning a trip to Detroit in the extremely near future. I am going to be using Price Line Name Your Own Price (I'm not cheap. I am a smart shopper) but I have never been to DTW and need some help picking out a part of town. I wont have transportation (car) on the first day so being close to stuff be it bus, subway, light rail or walking would be super. My area options are: 1 Dearborn

2 Detroit Airport (DTW)

3 Downtown Detroit

4 Southfield

5 Taylor - Southgate

I plan on booking my lodging tonight or tomorrow. Depending on when I get the ambition to get to the bank lol.

Hugs,

Greg

Epi, you are indeed right. Detroit was not my best experience this past year. The last time I had visited this city was in the early 90's, and it was disheartening to see what had become of it. I only hope better days are ahead, they can sure use that news.

On a good note, I did manage to have a very good visit with an escort that drove quite a distance to connect. The problem was, I had to go thru so many no call backs or response to emails before I found him.

Hey seaboy,

Dane Michaels here. I am currently in detroit for work and my family. I have been up here now 3 times and I can tell you that the business is good here. I have a few regulars and booked a few new clients in the metro area. I hope the very best for you up here and as far as places to stay, I book on hotwire every time and if you book a 3 and a half star, Ill say that 9 times out of 10 it will be the Double Tree by Hilton down town Detroit. The address is 525 West Lafayette Blvd Detroit Mi 48226. I have stayed here 3 times now and they really are great suites. It is central to nearly everything and I have noticed that in my tours here I travel (by car) no more than 30 miles for any given client, so this hotel may be optimal for you, again, I've noticed this as my trend when here for work.

I wish you the best here and hope you land some good regulars. Hit up Greek town and Motor city Casinos, they are great just to walk around, view architecture and shop, the eating is great here also. **Side note, eat all you can... The Double Tree has a really great cardio/ free weight gym.** Best wishes and If you come through, move down into Indy too, its about a 4.5 hour drive, but I am sure youll do great there too, they are starving for some quality guys when passing through and that is my second leg of my tour where ill wrap up and head back into Raleigh NC. Take care Seaboy, safe travels, and again best of luck!!!!

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Detroit Downtown on Washington Blvd the last time I went to Detroit and it worked out fine. The Westin Book Cadillac next door is gorgeous, but may be beyond your price point. I didn't have a car and there's no subway, just the overground People Mover which makes a loop around the downtown core. I would've felt too isolated in the suburbs without my own transport. Downtown Detroit has definitely seen better days, but I never felt unsafe and there's some great Art Deco architecture to explore if you're interested. I did well there, the city is definitely under served and all of my clients were happy to come to me downtown or pick me up. Good luck!

I get to Detroit quite frequently so I may be able to help. Detroit is not an easy city to get around without a car. Public transit is quite limited and things are really spread out. I was in Detroit for the Auto Show in January and I stayed at the Westin Book Cadillac downtown. It is a very old hotel that was completely refurbished in the last 2-3 years. It was lovely and worked very well for me and my travelling companion. We even walked to the convention center for the Auto Show and felt perfectly safe. Not sure I would do the walk at night however. Taxis seemed quite abundant around the hotel if you wanted to get to the casinos or some restaurants. We ate at the Whitney (a restaurant in an old estate close by) one night and found the room to be magnificent. We used taxis although we did have a car. The food was good and the service so/so.

The restaurants and bars at the hotel were going gangbusters during our stay. Could be that things were very busy due to the auto show but the atmosphere in the hotel venues was very good.

I have also stayed at properties near Dearborn and in Troy and been quite satisfied. However, if the casinos are high on your list, you cannot go wrong staying at the Westin downtown.

Having lived in metro-detroit all my life, I can tell you with authority that your best bet to be centrally located given all the options you listed would definitely 100% be Southfield. And we have a SMART bus system that will get you around almost anywhere. Just google SMART bus for Michigan. I wouldnt rent a place in downtown detroit just because of the river .It is frozen, and quite frankly, looks very dreary in the winter. Best wishes. Oh yeah, and i would never, ever, stay in Taylor :)

I would not stay in Detroit itself unless it is absolutely necessary. The city is a disaster. Try the area around Northville. It is about thirty five minutes north of the airport and northwest of downtown Detroit. Very nice area.

I would have to agree. The best areas are West Bloomfield, Farmington Hills, Novi, and Northville.

Hey...I live around Detroit...in a suburb...well it's the Upper peninsula but pretty much everything is a suburb of Detroit.

Anyway there are lots of public transit options when you're here. The People mover (when it works) moves people a whole mile or something so that's an option. Of course there's also....um...let me think....hmmm I'll have to think up some other ones....

Not to be a downer but judging from my experiences in Chicago and Indy I would not go anywhere near that region without atleast 1 pre-paid, pre-booked client. I've wasted way too much energy voyaging to those places and being that winter is in full swing, I'd imagine all the snow birds are in Florida...

On the bright side, I've met some nice guys from Detroit.

Being a Midwest resident whose travels are mainly in the IL/IN/OH area, I wonder if your experiences are due to the websites you've used for advertising. I'm finding that when looking to hire someone in Indy or Columbus, Men 4 Rent Now has the greatest quantity and variety to select from; whereas few selections on most other sites.
